BEST NEW MUSIC: INDIE, ALT POP, CHILL

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without at least one disaster story, but We Are: The Guard is here to help you keep the collateral damage to a minimum this December 25th with the latest edition of Best Chill Songs.
Let the power of the melodies and beats from today’s Best of Indie Pop post save you from the misery that you’re about to endure through this upcoming week.
The thing about Christmas music is it’s unavoidable. Which brings us to Dog Orchestra’s cover of the Christmastime classic “Carol of the Bells,” a welcome reminder that Christmas music doesn’t have to suck.
Our weekly chart this week has undergone a takeover by some of the top talented indie artists that we’ve had the pleasure to work with. DENM, Jamie Lidell, Cappa, Eman8, MXMS, and others have taken holiday classics and revamped the way they sound.
Things may be relatively quiet on the music front, but there are still some decent tunes to be found if you look close enough. Not that you NEED to, of course, because We Are: The Guard has once again done all of the hard work for you as part of the latest edition of New Indie Music.
This is that new sound. That bass-heavy house vibe with pop-rap funkiness that covers every possible quadrant of what makes a good dance music tune. I’ve heard a couple jams like this before but here it’s like an angel from heaven came down to craft the perfect version of it. Hark the herald Merk & Kremont.
Stress levels are getting higher, and tempting as it is to collapse into a blubbering mess of whiskey eggnog and Amazon packages, We Are: The Guard is here to help you make it through what's left of the holiday season with the latest edition of Top Chill Songs.
Life doesn't mean a thing without the perfect playlist. Whoa, didn't mean to get dark on you there but with so many Scrooges around where do you go to find sanity? You come here, to We Are: The Guard’s Weekly Indie Pop column.
