12 New Indie Tracks Picked by Duffster
With the music world united in sadness this week for the late genius punk poet Lou Reed, who has given us all not just timeless music, but hope that our experimental youth won't catch up on us later in life. I mean, he almost reversed the '27 Club' digits in spite of his prolonged Rock 'n' Roll lifestyle. Lad. Some pretty sweet vibes for you this week to peel off the post Halloween masks to, including the fantastic I Break Horses, The Naked And Famous, plus boxfresh picks Mononoke, BROODS and AYER.
I BREAK HORSES - FAITH
I hope y'all didn't indulge in too many treats over Halloween? Nevermind here is another. Sweden's indie sweethearts I Break Horses are back with yet another stellar track and visual, showing a little more than we're used to of Maria Lindén. Catch 'em supporting Sigur Ros this month, if you're lucky enough.
M T - ALPHA ROMEO
MT stands for many things (love that), much like their music. Based in London & fronted by Aussie Michael Tomlinson. The anthemic "Alpha Romeo" is swaggering all over my speakers. The Vaccines, much?
MONONOKE - ALICE
Monochrome being the running theme this week and here is another. This dreamy debut from Liverpool's aloof Monokome (yeah I know) is as good as you'll hear. Slip on your vintage muffs and disappear down her rabbit hole.
AYER - CIRCLE DOWN
I've heard a few fresh projects this week but, this one in particular stands out. AYER is a collab between Danny Schmittler and Noosa's album producer Mickey Valen. Bliss ElectroPop from the duo. Look out for the debut EP this winter.
ALLYSON EZELL - PICK IT UP
I ain't sure how Iowa's Allyson Ezell - now based in Paris & working with UK producer MajiKer, has evaded blogger-hype status over the summer? This insanely catchy indie-pop track has been out a few months & the vid only has 1000+ views, merde! Hit play, and embrace her quirky goodness.
LAURA WOLFIE - RELECTIONS
If this debut single is anything to go by, Laura Wolfie is name we should all note. I was totally thrown by her change in direction during the first play - her soulful vocal soon burst into hip-hop (think..Katy B) backed with dark trippy electronics, refreshing.
THE NAKED AND FAMOUS - I KILL GIANTS
New Zealand's LORDE may be killing it right now, but she still has a long way to go before (if ever) becoming my favorite Kiwi fix. TNAF unveiled their latest video from the new album.
ROKKURRO - KILLING TIME
Rökkurró have been around for a while & if you too follow the Icelandic music scene, then you'll be familiar and know that they only sing in their native tongue. That was until this week when for the first time Rökkurró released a track in English! This was unexpected when hitting play - and yeah, I'm still a lil' fucking excited at finally hearing Hildur Kristín's vocal in English.
DEAD CEREMONY - HEARTBEAT
Dead Ceremony released the video for "Heartbeat" this week, the track was premiered right here at Bitcandy during the summer. And the pulsating vibe is superbly captured visually by Goshdamn.
JOEL COMPASS - RUN (feat. PUSHA T)
Joel Compass has been building up a fair whack of attention in recent months, "Fucked Up" landed plaudits. However, Pusha T has just dealt the Londoner a game changer with their remix for "Run."
BROODS - BRIDGES
BROODS have been assertive to draw on the interweb success of the debut track "Bridges" and put out a video to bolster their freshness. Not sure what is cooking down in New Zealand and Australia at present, but 2013 has been their year for churning out a fucking wealth of talent, keep churning.
BOY IN A MOVIE - MAKE YOUR HEART FEEL
In need of winding down after a hectic Halloween & much partying? Good, A superbly chilled track wraps up this post. "Make Your Heart Feel" by emerging producer 'Boy In A Movie'. Wearing Bon Iver on his sleeve here, I guarantee you hit repeat. Check out his Thunder EP after that repeat.
See ya next week, Keep it fresh, Keep it Bitcandy!
