BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 26 2014
OMFG!! Can’t believe it’s time for another PopSmut. Time flew. Anyways, lucky me, lucky you. It’s time to share the top indie pop songs with you. Instant pleasure for your ears. Boom! That just happened. Well, it’s about to happen as soon as you scroll through and hit play on the following tracks from MNEK, Kwabs, Destructor and a couple more ear creamers. Yes I said ear creamer, you know the equivalent to a panty creamer but in your ears. Anyways, to the music.
MNEK - WROTE A SONG ABOUT YOU
Gawd damn, this 19 years old crooner has got some skillz. MNEK’s sound slightly channels that of RnB singer Miguel, with an added dose of maturity. Ladies and some gents, you can lay your jealousy issues to rest. In case you’re wondering who the song is dedicated to ... well, no one. It’s about no one. Just another track dug up from MNEK’s imagination.
X AMBASSADORS & JAMIE N COMMONS - “JUNGLE” FEAT. JAY Z
YouTuber arithsem hit the nail on the head with his comment, “All show no substance jay didn't add anything to it no more no less.” The track would have been just fine without the guest vocal of the “High and almighty.”
MILKY CHANCE - STOLEN DANCE
I can not get enough of the German duo Milky Chance and their track, “Stolen Dance.” It’s the most contagious and good feeling song of the last year. In case you haven’t taken a listen just click play above or better yet check out their newly released album, Sadnecessary, here.
SEINABO SEY - HARD TIME
This brilliant video/track almost slipped through our fingers, but with a voice as powerful and engaging as that of Swedish singer Seinabo Sey, we were not going to let it fall through the cracks. This soulful songstress has become an instant favorite.
ED SHEERAN - DON’T [OFFICIAL]
I am a bit torn of how I feel about Ed Sheeran. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that I was never a fan of his to begin with. I just can’t handle too much awesomeness? Ha! Just kidding, of course I can handle awesomeness, I just can’t handle music that sounds forced.
PRINCE - WALK IN THE SAND
What I can handle is Prince. Time to start a nice warm bath, get the bubbles ready, and pour me a nice glass of OJ. This is alone time music, you know for when you feel like being alone with yourself. Expertly crafted track right here :).
BIG FREEDIA - EXPLODE (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
Holy shitballs. I was not ready to see what I just saw. Transitioning from a slow jam to Big Freedia can be a bit of a shocker. I would assume it’s like a speedball or something. Click the above video only if you know you can handle 3 minutes of explosive beats. You only live once, right?!
JAKUBI - COUCH POTATO
Bringing your blood pressure back down is the latest single to come from Australian indie pop artists Jakubi. It’s upbeat, quirky, and full of sunkissed vibes. Take a listen above as I think it will help improve the outlook of your day. Just kidding, it will only make you want to sit around all day and do nothing.
KWABS - INTO YOU
When you combine Kwabs' vocals with Chris Loco’s production you get an eargasm. It’s climatic! If you have yet to experience one yourself, please, I repeat please listen above because life is not worth living if you haven’t had one.
DESTRUCTO - PARTY UP FEAT. YG
Damn! This is one of those songs that will be stuck to my head the entire day. If I suffer, you suffer heehee. Enjoy the track now before it gets played out this summer.
That’s all for you today. I’ll check in with you later this week as I have more indie pop songs to share with you. Until then, keep sending your curator finds. If we like ‘em, we’ll feature your suggestions. More about that here.
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
