10/6/16
Untitled by Ryan Wong

This. Is. Explosive. For everyone that’s been having the dullest of days, let today’s playlist of the top indie pop songs knock your socks off. We have new Kero Kero Bonito here to spice up your mood as well as brand spanking new tunes from Mr. Oizo, Flume, Kaytranada and other alternative pop artists. Hang on to your hips, because you’ll be dropping, locking, and popping to the fiery beats below. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be playing this playlist over and over. Regardless of your musical preference, you’re going to like what you hear. Trust me, You, Need, This.

THE WEEKND - STARBOY FT. DAFT PUNK

There is nothing wrong with indulging in a good thriller every now and then, especially if the story line involves one of your favorite pop artists. An expert at creating visually powerful videos, The Weeknd returns with his latest piece, "Starboy," featuring legendary French producers Daft Punk. The collaboration was mind blowing in itself, but behind the alluring dark electronic beats and the murder that takes place, one can only wonder...does this mark the death of The Weeknd in the pop genre? I guess we won’t really know until after his album drops towards the end of November.

MR. OIZO - ALL WET (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

“All Wet” is in fact Mr. Oizo’s new album promo. It's an over the top teaser featuring snippets of the top singles and the artists that collaborated with the producer. Familiar faces such as a very non Skrillex, Peaches, Boys Noize, and Trump appear throughout the video. Watch above and see if you can identify the real actors.

FLUME - SAY IT FEAT. TOVE LO (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

The video for Flume’s mega fresh track, “Say It,” personifies the essence of the song. A crisp, clean beat that blends brilliantly with the dreamy vocals of Tove Lo. On the dreamy note, this ear candy feels very much like a dream that you wish never came to an end.

KERO KERO BONITO - TRAMPOLINE

Umm...YaSS! YES!! This is what we need. We need that like it pick me up and Kero Kero Bonito is here to add that spring to our step by reminding us to bounce back up with their quirky dance single, “Trampoline.” “Even if you’re falling, OK/ There’s a trampoline waiting for you/ You just have to believe.” Repeat this track 3 times and then repeat some more!

MELVV & MOONZZ - GOODBYE

Mmmm..mmm.mmm this is how you do future bass with style and class. Melvv has crafted this piece above to serve as a track that sets your mind up to be carefree. It’s mega laid back and the vocals from MOONZz are spellbinding. Take a listen for yourselves above and experience the Melvv mania.

KAYTRANADA - YOU’RE THE ONE (FEAT. SYD)

Anyone who has been following Kaytranada will recognize that the artist has an ability like no one else to fuse a variety of genres into a cohesive and well understood work of art. He also has a knack when it comes to music videos. Fans of the 1980s rom-com Coming To America and early 90s sitcoms will appreciate the lighthearted theme behind “You’re The One.”

MURA MASA - LOVE$ICK (FEAT. A$AP ROCKY)

A$AP Rocky adds his chops to the already sexy chill Mura Masa single, “Love$ick.” The original version is quite perfect, so it was very much appreciated that there weren’t any significant changes other than the addition of Rocky’s improv rapping. For more mind expanding beats be sure to check out Mura Masa’s soundcloud page. I 100% recommend the Someday Somewhere EP.

SNBRN - LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND (EXTENDED MIX)

This may be a reminder from SNBRN that, though summer is long gone, the warm vibes will and can forever live inside of us thanks to the extended version of last season's well received hit, “Leave The World Behind.” Put on your bikinis and bust out the pina coladas, it’s time to dance.

BAAUER x CZ - HOW CAN YOU TELL WHEN IT’S DONE?

I’m pretty sure the the title for the song above is a rhetorical question. Think about it, what is done? Does done even have a beginning? If there is no beginning can done exist? If there is no drop can it be done? This track is more of a think piece and I’m afraid there is no real valid answer. It’s just one of those questions that we just have to leave it up to science. No more thinking for me nor for you, let’s just enjoy the brilliant banger.

TIGERTOWN - PAPERNOTE

The re-release of Tigertown’s single “Papernote” only adds to the anxiety of waiting for new music to drop. Our ears are starving for the soothing indie pop signature sound from the Aussie natives. We want more, we want more.

Thanks once again readers for checking in on the best of indie / alternative songs of the week. We’ll be back next week with more tunes.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
