TOP CHILLWAVE SONGS - WEEK 51 2013
BitCandy pride themselves on getting you through family arguments, grandma's excessive farting and fake enthusiasm for bad gifts with the help of this week's top chillwave songs. Thank you to the Curators who helped out with today's picks from FKA twigs, Burial, Agnes Obel and even more. If you need some extra help over the holidays, check out the Best Chill Out Songs Ever here and here.
FKA TWIGS – HOW'S THAT
Is anyone else picking up on early Björk in this video for “How's That,” or is that just me? Anyway, FKA twigs is my second choice to win Sound of after another favorite British artist of mine, Jungle.
OWSEY – IN A DECADE FULL OF DREAMS – CURATOR DUFFSTER
Don't take my word for it guys, but I think British producer, Owsey, just made it acceptable to listen to Gotye once again. Thank you for hooking me up with this masterpiece of a reworking, Duffman.
KODA – RECLAIMER (XNDRJ REMIX)
Heads up, Koda, I'm starting to think you've got a huge fanboy in the form of XNDRJ. This isn't the first, second, but third reworking the Canadian has unveiled of you in the space of just four months.
BURIAL – TRUANT
Keep blowing your load over River Dealer, Pitchfork, but I prefer Truant/Rough Sleeper. Check out this vintage cut from Four Tet, and by vintage, I mean a year old, and by Four Tet, I mean Four Tet.
IYES – CRAZY IN LOVE (BEYONCÉ COVER) – CURATOR DUFFSTER
Remember when Beyoncé was young, urban and not caught up in her very own mythology and self importance? Pepperidge Farm remembers, as do British pop band, IYES, going on this hipster cover.
HNNY – NO
Swedish producer, HNNY, pronounced like the condiment, and not like the Tumblr mating call, has delivered yet another house interpretation of a pop classic. Is it me, or are TLC fucking everywhere?
KODA – STAYING (JACM REMIX)
Okay, I admit it, XNDRJ isn't the only Koda fanboy around these parts. In fact, this atmospheric cut from JacM is the third Koda reworking featured in the last fortnight. You can thank me later, hipster.
AGNES OBEL – DORIAN
So, I couldn't think of a more gorgeous song to close with than “Dorian” from Agnes Obel's second album, Aventine. For more gorgeosity made flesh, check out this live version as filmed in Germany.
That's it for this week's top chillwave songs, hipster. I'm back Friday for even more. Don't forget, if you've got what it takes to contribute to any of our weekly roundups, go and sign up to be a Curator.
About Jess Grant
When Jess Grant isn't writing on music, she can be found playing it – on her guitar, on her ukulele, and on her recently acquired mandolin. Playing it hideously, she ought to add. Jess also studies. She studies the English language, to be precise. Jess is currently on her way to a degree in the subject, and enjoys starting and never finishing novels, screenplays, and poetry in her spare time. She also likes dogs. Lots of dogs.
