BEST EDM - WEEK 14
Hello follow EDM and Electronic music lovers (aka my best friends). Pretty good weekend this weekend, huh? Go ahead and raise your hand if you (like myself) just stayed in front of your computer all weekend watching the Ultra livestream. Why are you raising your hand? That’s a rhetorical question asked by a stranger on the internet. Did you hear the Martin Garrix x Tiesto Collab? What about the Martin Garrix x Hardwell team-up? What about the Martin Garrix x Aphex Twin track? All pretty awesome. Turns out I was so hyper-focused on the Ultra stream that I didn’t even get a chance to actually listen to these songs I’ve posted for you today. This is just an approximation of a guess of what they sound like.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t bring the FIRE for you guys. Newness from Kungs, A.Skillz and Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. WOO!
SONNY FODERA & GENE FARRIS - WE WORK IT
Even though we love this song, we at BitCandy are unable condone the blatant drug use that this song propogates. That being said, if Sonny Fodera and Gene Farris can pull off “their work” while doing all these drugs, color us impressed. This is a groovy house anthem to get the dudes far too proud of the amount of drugs they’ve taken all the more hype on the dance floor.
MAJOR LAZER - ROLL THE BASS
New Major Lazer album is always something to celebrate. Sure, I may not agree with every musical decision that Diplo makes, but I can always agree with this set of beautiful dancehall and reggaeton sounds until the end of time. Roll the Bass is a high energy trap anthem from what I’m sure is to be one of the hottest albums of the year — expect to see Major Lazer on every festival lineup that hasn’t already been announced. Oh yeah, and tune in to the ADHD Major Lazer cartoon coming soon.
JAMIE XX - LOUD PLACES FEAT. ROMY MADLEY CROFT
Jamie xx’s solo album is one of my personally most anticipated albums of the year. His original productions are some of the most exciting things in music, and his work with the xx is absolutely legendary. Here, he combines the best of both worlds— using Romy’s enchantingly dark voice over a beat for the club— albeit a weird one. If this had only been the direction the xx had went, wouldn’t the world be a better place?
VAN GELDER - DEEPER
Van Gelder has quite the grip on producing a fat, full sounding future bass. In a world where Oliver Heldens and Tchami are the biggest things in dance music, Van Gelder gets a place near the throne for sure. Ain’t gonna sneeze at expertly produced music, with a lot of charm and great melody. Maybe Van Gelder is what we’ve all been waiting for.
CLAUDE VONSTROKE & JESSE ROSE - BARE MOUNTAIN
Two of the most fun dudes in dance music teaming up to make a silly, loose and bumping house music monster. I’m dancing in my seat so hard right now, I can’t even imagine how much this track is gonna go off on the dance floor. Legends working with legends tends to lean towards legendary.
ZOMBOY - DELIRIUM FT. RYKKA (FAR TOO LOUD REMIX)
Far Too Loud turning Zomboy and Rykka’s beautiful moombahcore tune into full on vomit-step. The speed, the wobble— this is some straight up Snails shit. Hard music just gets harder on this remix package. It makes me scared for the children. :)
DU TONC - ANIMALS
I was really hoping that Du Tonc had finally made the Disco cover of Martin Garrix’s Animals that we’d all been asking for. UNFORTUNATELY, I’m wrong and instead Du Tonc dropped on us all some groovy summer day disco vibes. This is the kind of music that you listen to on your yacht. Is disco the new yacht rock?
A.SKILLZ & KRAFTY KUTS - NOW DROP
For those of you about to get funky, I salute you. A.Skillz is the best name you haven’t heard of yet in the funk game. Dude is one of the freshest mixers in the world, and he produces some of fattest, horniest funk you can imagine too. For those of you into GRiZ and the Pretty Lights family, time to expand your palate— and no one better in the world to help with that than A.Skillz.
RODRIGUEZ - CAN'T GET AWAY (KUNGS REMIX)
So forward thinking of Kungs to take Rodriguez’s unheralded classic and always underrated vocals and rework them into a modern day deep house classic. Vibes for days, with a series of cool instrumentation, a rad propelling beat and one of the most unique voices in music. Kungs has more ideas in his bag of tricks than most other young producers. Every new track propels him higher and higher up the ladder of imagination.
DAMIAN LAZARUS & THE ANCIENT MOONS - VERMILLION
Damian Lazarus has turned his special brand of house music into a full on live production. Performances with The Ancient Moons have been popping up everywhere, but my friends came back from CRSSD and were absolutely slack jaw about it. Full album coming soon on Crosstown Rebels, but I’ll just keep this smooth silky house on repeat until then. This is the most beautiful song in the world to me, right now.
OKAY, See u next week, I hope. Don’t get hit by a bus.
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
