BEST EDM - WEEK 6
Hello hello hello our loyal little beat-babies and dance-demons. I hope you are ready to have your socks blown straight through your shoes and your shoes blown through the floor of your car, so you’re basically run-powering it on the Flintstones. 'Cause that’s my goal every week: to blow your mind so much that it tears the shit out of that brand new snapback you just dropped $60 on. I like listening to music, but I like sharing music even better. This is the pleasure I get out of life. Please make my dreams come true. If you enjoy these fine, fine tunes as much as I think you will, please send pics of your ruined socks, shoes, cars and hats, thank you.
How about new music from Autograf, AWE, NIGHTMARE and Wiwek. YEAH, OK!
MICHAEL CALFAN - NOBODY DOES IT BETTER
Last I heard Michael Calfan was making perfectly reasonable, totally catchy progressive house tunes. Then I closed my ears for a couple of years and now he’s making perfectly reasonable, totally catchy futurist tropical house tunes. Nothing if consistent in your quality, Calfan. Impressive. Still using that *classic* progressive-house white noise burst, I see. It’s okay, I won’t tell anyone. Old dogs die hard with old tricks.
AUTOGRAF - FUTURE SOUP (FEAT. PATRICK BAKER)
Well I haven’t heard that bass-patch before. It’s clunky and mechanical and fun… and a whole new take on the future bounce we’ve learned to love and hate and tolerate. This is the lead track off the new Autograf EP and it’s just as goddamn fantastic as every other track these dudes have released. I feel like they had to have signed a deal with the devil or something. How do you get so inventive and catchy and attentive to mass-appeal focus at the same time? The devil.
NOISIA & PHACE - PROGRAM (AWE BOOTLEG)
I’m interested because last I heard, AWE was taking some time away to focus his attention on producing music that makes *him* passionate. This vicious trap-dusted monster truck madness dubstep isn’t like anything we’ve heard from this dude so far. Sure it’s a Noisia & Phace remix, so what else is to be expected. But this is a whole new direction for AWE. Can’t wait to see where else he goes with it.
DIGITAL X - AVENGER
Hey, I fucking hate trance. And I don’t fucking hate this. That’s as much of an A+ as I could ever give.
NGHTMRE - BURN OUT
This track has got more genres than most MIXES. It seamlessly goes from bleep-bloopy Porter Robinson chill out dance to jump-up drum & bass to big ass fat festival trap drop. Props to the style and transition on this track. Flair points on fleet.
WIWEK - REBELS (FT. AUDIO BULLYS)
It takes a minute for this track to latch onto anything cohesive. It’s lulling you into a false sense of security, piquing your interest with jungle noises and circus-lullaby melodies before dropping an almost disturbingly sharp and memorable drop. This shit will go off massive with the right audience. Audio Bullys’ rhymes add a lot to this track, giving it real voice and sincerity instead of just SLAMMING you with the viciousness of the drop.
THE CHAINSMOKERS - NEW YORK CITY
Woah, Chainsmokers getting all emotional with deep dark female vocals. Not exactly what this song has to do with New York City as much as it does a broken heart. What, did The Chainsmokers just watch Master of None too and get super influenced by it or something? Probably.
JAGERVERG & DANNY DAZE - BRAV
Bizarre, funky loopy techno that constantly shifts to new realms and NEVER quits? This is off Danny Daze’s new Miami EP on mysterious label Omnidisc. With this release they let the cat out of the bag that Double D was the curator behind it all. This track is one of the most simultaneously fun and hypnotic techno tracks I’ve EVER heard. DOPE.
CARMADA - REALISE (CHROME SPARKS REMIX)
The original mix of "Realise" by Carmada was an instant future bass classic when it came out months ago. Color me surprised to see a new remix pop up, but WOW. Here, Chrome Sparks disassembles the track and puts it together like a music savant toddler. Chill, warped beats highlight the originals beautiful hook and fill it in with all sorts of strange, interesting, beautiful sounds.
CHVRCHES - GUN (GROUNDISLAVA REMIX)
Groundislava turns CHVRCHES massive hit, "Gun," into a playful DDR early 90’s rave classic by speeding up the vocals and giving it a bouncy, trancey and *ravey* underbelly. What an inventive remix idea! Turn a song you could hardly escape in 2016 into a lovely 1993 throwback rave classic. Let’s go load up the DDR… up down left right left right left right up up.

About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
