BEST ELECTRO MUSIC - WEEK 41
WHAT’S UP, PARTY PEOPLE? We live to party another day. The world hasn’t ended, even though Nostradamus predicted it to happen yesterday. Holy shit! Lucky for us we get to live on another day or week or month or year or century and discover all sorts of new dance music to keep our legs moving, our fists pumping and our asses shaking. This is the future that we never thought we’d have, let’s dance to it.
New Amazing Awesome Astounding Music from Sophie, Kill the Noise and ZHU. Can it even get any better than that? NOPE.
SOPHIE - MSMSMSM
Wow. The first SOPHIE single to not feel like it was created by a cutesy anime character. Sure, its ever-repeating melody is right in Sophie’s wheelhouse, but finally it feels like he’s creating some techno to get played out at the club. I’m sure the likes of Tiga and Boys Noize are all about this. For someone who has been following SOPHIE since day 1, it’s strange to hear something so… “normal.”
KILL THE NOISE - FUK UR MGMT
“this goes out to all the DJ’s who spend more time marketing than making music. mothafuck yo management!!!!!” Oh Gosh Kill the Noise is such a badass. He does NOT play the game. He just makes heavy / bouncy fun as fuck music. He’s constantly evolving, doing whatever the fuck he wants. I don’t know if there’s anyone cooler in the whole goddamn scene.
ZHU x GALLANT - TESTAROSSA MUSIC
So ZHU drops EP 1 and I’m thoroughly impressed. 6 billion remixes of "Faded" later and I’m OVER it. Fast forward a year and ZHU is on the verge of dropping EP 2 and cementing himself as a real deal fucking talent. Every song sounds nothing like every other song, but all with the same unifying vision. Teaming up with Gallant, he makes one of the chillest catchy songs of the year. Minimal beat, funky baseline and Gallant channeling Prince. What more could you want?
JOACHIM GARRAUD - DJ PLAY THAT BEAT
Let’s simplify. Joachim Garraud comes at dance music from a really interesting place, every time he comes at it. This is a really simple tune with a really simple message. Shut up, and play that beat. While at its core this song features a big room bassline and a silly vocal hook, the drums make this track something special. I really do want the DJ to play this beat.
TEDDY KILLERZ - HEAVY CRUISER
So when the Drum&Bass remake of Transformers, this is the soundtrack, right?
NICOLAS HAELG - MIND GAMES
On one hand I hate this song for being really calculated. Funky smooth deep house with crooning soulful female vocals and twangy hooks. This is the next step from tropical house. Bros and Broettes are all going to Bro-Down to this and ruin a whole new set of sounds. But on the other hand, I think this song is fucking awesome and I love every second of it. Good thing I’m a spider and I actually have 8 hands. 7/8 love it and want to listen to it forever.
SIGALA - SWEET LOVIN
This is the type of track I can imagine EVERYBODY playing. It’s big, with huge piano hits and a vocal hook that is out of control. Deep, progressive, anyone that plays house needs to get on top of this track like yesterday.
TOTAL SAMPLES - EXCISION PACK DEMO TRACK
A track built exclusively out of Excision samples? I like it. It’s like an Excision track but made by somebody else. Proves how much talent Excision has as a producer. Fool got more talent oozing out of his sounds than most. Enough that anyone can make fire.
DVBBS - NEVER LEAVE
DVBBS going back to their boy-band EDM roots, these feels like a Big Room LFO track. The music video is straight out of 1999, chillin' on beaches, sitting in the back seat of a convertible, singing along to your cheesy track. Much props to these guys for staying true to the cheese. I'ts pure pop EDM fun though. Can't complain 'bout that.
BILLY KENNY'S DIRTYBIRD CAMPOUT 'WHITTLING' MIX FOR THUMP
Just got back from the Dirtybird Campout and the big surprise of the week was label newcomer, Billy Kenny. His excitable bouncy sounds really pumped up the mid-day audience. So why the hell wouldn’t I share a little bit of that magic with you? Here’s his pre-fest mix that really captures the sound this bird has going. It's time everyone starts paying attention to the newest member of the best label in the goddamn world.
THANKS A SHMILLION!
