BEST INDIE POP SONGS - WEEK 25
Yo, what up! We’re back and ready to do what we do best. Every week We Are: The Guard’s Best of Indie Pop column begins with a sigh of relief because it’s Wednesday and we’re keeping things on your playlist fresh from now until Friday. How about you reach for that “Do Not Disturb” sign and dig into everything from A-Z excluding Jay - Z, we’ll let the other sites cover that trilogy because we have bigger sounds to chase. Instead, lend your ears to music from Nao, SOPHIE, Tessa Violet, and more. Grab your headphones and get ready to hit play. This is gonna be hawt!
NAO - ANOTHER LIFETIME
" frameborder="0" width="560" height="315">
We start this list off with a heavy single from UK songstress Nao. And when I say heavy, I mean “Another LIfetime” is something you would swipe right on because checks off all the boxes on our list. Best get on this heart wrenching ballad today because tomorrow she’ll be too hot to handle. Stay tuned for her upcoming second album coming out soon we hopes.
KANYE WEST - VIOLENT CRIMES
Because we know you have awesome taste in music, you’ve probably played “Violent Crimes” over a gazillion times by now, but now you can sing along to Kanye’s dreamiest track from ye.
FRND - ERASE
Shhh, can you hear that? Listen closer, it’s your newest obsession that will have you falling hard and fast for FRND’s dreamy new single “Erase.” Sorry amgs (that’s spanish for FRND), like the person you don’t want to fall for but do anyways, this beat will linger in your mind for days. Thank gawd that the production doesn’t come with a sour heartbreak. Now go get you some glitch pop!
TESSA VIOLET - CRUSH
“Crush” is rated is rated MA because it’s only for mature audiences due to its massive appeal. I mean who can resist Tessa trying to play it cool as she dances around the grocery store. Look at her she’s adorbs!
SOPHIE - IMMATERIAL
I’m not sure how to handle SOPHIE’s pristine bubble glitch bop “immaterial.” It’s so bubbly I’m gonna diiiieee. Her debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un - Insidesliterally just dropped and it’s has everyone including us talking about her game changing style that is placing her as in demand artist.
ORKID - OBVIOUS
I still believe that the Swedes hold the key to hit song making, and 21 year old indie artist ORKID wears the key quite well. Honestly, she’s spilling all sorts of electro pop goodness and smearing it in our faces. Even if you’re not a fan of electro pop you will want to take a bite out of this slice of groovy upbeat pop perfection.
OUTSIDEOUTSIDE - DRIP
Geez, I’m going to have to take a 2 minute break because this list keeps getting hotter thanks to outsideOUTSIDE. For those having a slow work week “Drip” will be sure to slow it down even further. Prepare for your heart rate to drop nearly to comatose status only to leave you salivating for more material. Lucky for all if us, we won’t have to look to hard because their debut EP This Town Killed All My Friends is in the works.
TROYE SIVAN - DANCE TO THIS FT. ARIANA GRANDE
Mmmm, I’m getting all sorts of 80s vibes on Troye Sivan’s latest sweetness “Dance To This.” The subtle gem is a song I find myself going back to over and over and over. Sure, it may not be an explosive dance track but it’s boiling hot. It’s a vision that allows you to get away from the ugliness and get lost in a beautiful vision of you dancing with Troye dancing with Arian dancing with Pete.
LEIKELI47 - CHAIN GANG FT CLYDE GUEVARA
Let’s be honest here … anything Leikeli47 puts out is fire! Agree or not, nothing you say or do will changed my mind. She’s the fiercest female rapper around and makes it know that she is hardcore and ain’t nobody mess with her because she’s part of the chain gang, and you don’t mess with no chain gang.
GALLANT x ASAP FERG - DOESN’T MATTER REMIX
Gallant and A$AP Ferg is the latest duo to drool over (we won’t judge if you do). By all means, take my box of tissues you’re going to need them once you’re done watching and listening to “Doesn’t Matter Remix.” *Sigh* If only I had a love who would love me the way this song makes me feel.
THE KNOCKS - RIDE OR DIE FEAT. FOSTER THE PEOPLE
We were given the audio some time ago but this week we are treated to the visuals for “Ride Or Die.” The band known for their pumped up kicks gets groovy with The Knocks and together they pay homage to pop culture duo’s like Bill & Ted, Wesley Snipes & Woody Harrelson, Samuel L Jackson & John Travolta, you & We Are: The Guard, etc.
As always, thanks for tuning in and checking up on the latest in pop music. Be sure to follow our playlist on Spotify for fresher than picked lettuce tunes. See you all next Wednesday.
