BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 20
Today’s human curated top Indie Pop songs are much like the weather we’ve been experiencing here in southern California: a sudden feeling of feverish heat followed by ice cold chills. No, wait I think that’s the definition for hot flashes. Either way, you’re going to most likely enjoy our features. Do you ears a favor and read on to discover new groovy favorites from Miley Cyrus (watch before you judge), It’s Mark Johns, New Politics and others. And if you’re still up for some more good tunes check out our awesome playlist on Spotify.
THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS - GO
After 5 looooooong years The Chemical Brothers have announced they will be releasing a brand new album and today we present to you the lead single, “Go” feat. Q-Tip, along with (like in true TBC fashion) a riveting music video directed by Michel Gondry. Listeners are greeted with familiar sounds -- think LCD + Daft Punk pre Random Access Memories. It’s a track that contains all the necessities for a summer dance anthem.
MILEY CYRUS - HAPPY HIPPIE PRESENTS - NO FREEDOM
Some people are really shitty. They do shitty things to people that already have it pretty shitty. So when I hear about people trying to make the world a bit less shittier I make it a point to love the shit out of it! Example: Miley Cyrus. In her latest backyard series, Miley raises awareness to fight injustice against the homeless youth and LGBT youth community by covering Dido’s single, “No Freedom.” I can’t find words to describe how truly awesome she is.
BRANDON FLOWERS - I CAN CHANGE
I get it Brandon, you’re stuck on 80’s just as much as I am, but the only difference is that I’m not an artist that can copy and paste other artists work and slap my vocals over it and have people pay to listen to something that sounds half assed.
DEATH TEAM - DOLPHIN STYLE
We first came across Swedish duo Death Team last year and ever since we’ve been hooked! In their latest production, “Dolphin Style,” Maja Edelbring’s vocals are like candy and the tone is playful and hypnotic. These guys are undeniably irresistible! They’ve got some serious mad talent.
METRIC - THE SHADE
Metric returns right where they left off. YASSS! Once again they work their magic into a spacious synth background with flirty layers and playful lyricism. Word on the street here is that they will be dropping a new album later this year.
IT’S MARK JOHN - ALL DAY (PRODUCED BY SWEATER BEATS)
Oh schnapps, this delicious cover of “All Day” might send Kanye West into a rant. We are so on board with the rock electro take production. Sweater Beats seems to be on a roll and there is no sign of him slowing down.
MOLLY MOORE - NATURAL DISASTER (MTS REMIX)
Get your morning on with this smooth remix. With its softly added textured background MTS takes Molly Moore;s single into greater heights. One listen spirals listeners into an a dreamy state of mind, no wonder it’s been getting lots of internet love.
LITTLE BOOTS - BETTER IN THE MORNING
Is this an adorable track or what? Little Boots knows how to make soft upbeat pop music. Although I disagree with everything being better in the morning (let’s face it, everything is better after 4 straight shots of Tequila) I’m totes in love with her cute playfulness.
NEW POLITICS - WEST END KIDS
That’s it, I’m done. My brain is too fried to tolerate this kind of pop. I don’t completely hate “West End Kids” because New Politics encapsulate a lot of things I love about them. I do however think it’s just a fluff song they decided to throw in their new album last minute.
AYLEE - LEARN TO SWIM
We’re closing off the playlist with a fine pick from our curator Duffster. Straight from Glasgow, we introduce to you you’re newest addiction, sweet, sweet Ayele. Think of her like a la CHVRCHES with a Prides vibe. We’re keeping a close watch on this one.
Once again thanks for checking my weekly post out. For more indie favorites make sure to stop by our main page and have a look around. See you all next week.
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
