BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 23

Welcome back my pretty people. While Eminem and Nicki Minaj keep playing us all by making us think they’re engaging in face to face tongue battles, we here at We Are: The Guard have put our energy and focus into ten indie pop artists that are using their tongues to win us over with their pop productions. We’ve filtered through gazillions of tracks (literally), took out the junk, and have dwindled it down to only the best. Turn your attention to Low Cut High Tops, Kesha, Charli XCX, and more.

KESHA - HYMN

Kesha is the soul shaker/soul whisperer to those who continue down the road of self discovery. A hymn for the hymnless is her journey towards healing, and what better way to go down an unknown path than to go at it with a band of misfits who like her, are as hopeful as they are strong. Sing it girl!

LOW CUT HIGH TOPS - CIGARETTES AND WINE

While love makes no sense at all, Seattle indie rocker Low Cut High Tops seems to make sense of the feeling in his latest release “Cigarettes And Wine.” Even though mixing too much of any one substance can send you rushing to the nearest white porcelain throne, the right balance can set you on a chill high that leaves a short-lived feeling of happiness and contentment, so enjoy it while it lasts and be sure to support the track.

CHARLI XCX - 5 IN THE MORNING

“5 In The Morning” is the first taste of many more songs to come from Charli XCX. With a heavy influence of hip-hop, “5 In The Morning” acts as your morning alarm. The steady beats throughout the track act as the backbone while the lyrics serve to be catchy and determined for any time of day.

ALWAYS NEVER - NO GOOD

I could care less about the identity of Always Never just as long as the music is getting delivered and finds it's way into our ears. Though “No Good” may sound like a lost version of a The Weeknd song, Always Never offers an allure that will keep you coming back for more.

ALLIE X - FOCUS

Ironic how a song about focus can make one feel more lost than before. It may be the darkness that falls over the fact that you may not have that special someone to help you focus as everything else around you crumbles away. If you fall into the singles category then you and me and the rest of us can be there for each other.

NICOLE MILLAR - ALL MY ISSUES

Can we just close our eyes and let our body run free with this track? I want to let go of all emotion and dance the pain away. Hold my hand, take my issues, and give me a hug because between you, me, and Nicole Miller we have big issues.

CYN - BELIEVER

Another hot single from the smooth operator CYN who seems to be just fine after a sour ending to a relationship. Yes, breakups hurt but they sound so dang good when artists like CYN sing about their thoughts and feelings.

IZNIIK - PARADISE

Because ordinary is boring and strange is good, here’s iZNiiK offering you something that serves to be more of head-scratcher than anything else. Enjoy the fuzz and colors for what they are and let the rhythm flow through your stiff body.

OTR - COLD FACTS FEAT. BLONDAGE

With summer beating on our faces, OTR’s single serves as a cold sting running down our backs. Blondage’s vocals serve as a mood enhancer, breaking your mind free from a previous mindset and helping it get settled into a new powerful and restored person.

AZEALIA BANKS - ANNA WINTOUR

This needs no introduction. Just watch, play, dance, then repeat some more. Music at it’s finest. #Queen!

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
