BEST OF INDIE - WEEK 14

What’s up, cuties?! Ingrid here, covering for Jess who I assume is MIA as she’s somewhere still recovering from the unveiling of this year’s FYF lineup. I mean, Janet Jackson??? THAT’S… totally left-field, but I’ll roll with it. Meanwhile, I have been absolutely scandalized listening to The Weeknd’s new EP. The heartbreak! The drama! I feel for him, but is it terrible of me to want to say thanks to Selena Gomez? She essentially revived the moody, brooding Abel that we all fell in love with years ago... Okay, now let’s get down to it. Here are the singles that we have handpicked for you this week, including Odesza, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Sigrid.

ODESZA - HIGHER GROUND (FEAT. NAOMI WILD)

Electronic duo Odesza released a new video this week for their uplifting single, “Higher Ground” featuring Naomi Wild. Naomi’s illuminating vocals, along with Odesza’s penchant for making great melodies make this a top contender for best songs this spring.

UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA - EVERYONE ACTS CRAZY NOWADAYS

Sounding like a funkier, modern rendition of my all-time faves, ELO, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s new single “Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays” will have you feverishly dancing in your bedroom and thinking disco is finally back for good.

RN - HARD HEARTS

Ryan Noble, aka “rn” is years younger than me but already has the talent of a cumulative 2 ½ Ingrids. Case in point: “Hard Hearts,” his new super catchy single, has an arrangement that sounds like it’s years ahead of its time. Future beats, for sure.

SIGRID - I DON’T WANT TO KNOW

If you’re still sleeping on Sigrid, you need to leave. Jay-kay. But if “Raw,” her first released track of 2018, didn’t grab your attention, maybe the more reflective “I Don’t Want To Know” will convince you of her presence. There’s a reason why everyone is talking about her, after all.

HER - ON & ON FT. ANNENMAY KANTEREIT, ROMEO ELVIS

Imagine a fusion of Lorde’s minimalist vibes with a bombastic DJ performance, and we’ll only just scratch the surface of Her’s sounds. “On & On” is a trip-hop and electronic track with an overwhelming amount of substance underneath its sounds.

AUTOGRAF - DEAD SOON (FT. LILS & BONSAI MAMMAL)

Autograf have collaborated with Lils and Bonsai Mammal in their new track, and the delivered message is as profound and powerful as the beats. “Dead Soon” tells it like it is, and the track breaks through like a punch straight to the belly.

AMY SHARK - SINK IN

Amy Shark’s rising stardom only grows with her feature in the Love, Simon soundtrack. “Sink In” carries much of the same emotional weight as her past songs, so tread lightly. If you cried during the film, you’re definitely crying listening to this.

SEINABO SAY - REMEMBER FT. JACOB BANKS

Rounding out this week’s batch of singles is Seinabo Sey, with Jacob Banks as a guest feature. Both singers offer contemplative vocal performances in this beautifully bittersweet song about memories and living on.

Until next time, everyone -- and happy Easter!
