BEST MUSIC VIDEOS - WEEK 28 2014
Welcome to the weekend, baby! And I don’t care what day it is where you are, you’ve arrived at internet culture heaven. Every week we take the best goddam new videos out there, add some bacon (GO MAKE BACON) and serve them up on a sexy platter called Bitcandy. And I can tell that you’re reeeeal hungry! So settle in and get comfy because you’re about to get a roundhouse kick of new video talent in the face and you’re going to love it. I promise.
JUNGLE – TIME
Any music video with an aging man dance-off has to be good, you just know it. Oops, now I’ve ruined the ending. But I bet you’re definitely going to get to the end of this video now. Mind tricks, mother**ker! Get that debut album, punks!
UMMET OZCAN - SMASH!
Yay! More weird dancing. Now I’m really feeling energized. Sometimes when I listen to music in 2014, I swear that I heard the exact same songs in the 90s. Huh, I wonder why?! But back to the video. Smashing things is always a brilliant concept for anything in my opinion, especially a music video. Or when Justin Bieber gets a new tattoo. Pretty much whenever. I’m going to go break something that doesn’t belong to me now. Brb.
THE DREAM – BLACK
Being from South Africa, it’s quite exciting to make it onto the big time music video scene with something other than Die Antwoord. But then again, those lyrics get to me. Is it a race thing or is he just sad? Mixed messages. And where exactly does he want to go home to? I’m pretty sure The Dream is from North Carolina. But with my defences lowered, I’m kind of really digging the video. Hey, it’s almost Madiba Day. Celebrate it!
GOODBYE CHANEL – FOREVA
Holy sh*t! Who’d expect a band like this to come out of nowhere and change up the music video game for good?! Not me, but I’m damn glad it happened. Goodbye Chanel have an EP out called Hot City Nights and you have to get it, even if it means stealing $4 from your significant other, or just any other.
LEISURE CRUISE – DOUBLE DIGIT LOVE
I can’t decide if I’m totally into this song or totally into this video. I think it’s probably a combination of lasers and the upbeatedness of it all. If I was a dancer, that would be my exact facial expression. And I’m not saying I would look much different in a latex suit either. Double digit love sounds like it’s the bomb. Where do I sign up?
DOPRAH – STRANGER PEOPLE
Those human Barbie dolls freak me the f**k out, so this video wasn’t exactly easy to watch, but I don’t think it was intended to be. OK, no seriously! I think I’m going to have nightmares. Too many colours. Too much plastic. I guess I’m more into real life. Unless this is a metaphor for real life…uh huh! I figured it out. I think.
HOW TO DRESS WELL – CHILDHOOD FAITH IN LOVE (Pt. 3)
Now if you haven’t actually watched the Part 1 or 2 of this, then stop what you’re doing and do that. Did you do it? OK good. Let’s continue. IT’S SOOOOO GOOD! Why isn’t everyone in the world watching this right now? One last thing: Aliens.
IS TROPICAL – OI PERU
Yes, these beautifully displayed items, backdrops and faces may seem completely unconnected, but if you think about it, if you reeeally think about it, there’s a bigger picture. A hidden meaning, a significance to it all. OK, I honestly just like the way it looks and the way it makes me feel all squishy inside. Or maybe I ate too much bacon.
YOUNG MAGIC – HOLOGRAPHIC
Nature is great. I love looking at it while I listen to good music. And it’s pretty cool that there are other things happening in this music video as well, but that was my favourite part. Sometimes it’s nice to go exploring, even if it’s just through a tiny screen on a screen on another screen. That’s technology for you - bringing you closer to those things you’re too lazy to actually do yourself. Amen!
WOODKID – THE GOLDEN AGE (FT. MAX RICHTER)
You can 3D print a human. I KNEW IT! This is an absolutely amazing song and the video, well it made the list, didn’t it?! The most emotional video and always surreal and in black and white and that’s a fact you can take to the bank. The Bank of Shut The F**k Up!
The weird just kept coming, didn’t it?! Well now that it’s over let me say one thing – THAT WAS INCREDEIBLE! And let me tell you another thing – WE DO THIS EVERY DAMN WEEK (almost). So come back you lazy music lovers because we’re here to make your dreams come true. Later X x x
About Bianca Fernandes
Bianca Fernandes has an unfounded love for Taylor Swift and an unexplainable, burning hatred for Bob Dylan. In her opinion, that's the perfect combination to be a music reviewer. And she doesn't give an F about what you have to say about it. She writes for one person, and that's herself. Think grumpy cat with a weakness for music and watching Miley Cyrus twerk. But she does other things simply for cash, like social media, web content creation and some crazy blogging when necessary.
