BEST NEW COVERS: EDEN XO “TORN - DON’T STOP BELIEVING”

Eden XO

Move over, DJ Earworm, there’s a new pop mash-up savant in your airspace, as Bitcandy favorite Eden XO proves with her best new cover, “Torn - Don’t Stop Believing.”

Mixing together, you guessed it, Journey’s Magnum Opus, “Don’t Stop Believing,” and Natalie Imbruglia’s surprisingly unerotic “Torn,” Eden breathes new lives into both songs by fusing them together. In a mashup Greg Gillis would be jealous of, Eden salvages two iconic tunes off the kitsch scrap heap and blends them together to reignite their emotional oomph.

You may think you know where this is going, but you really don’t. So have a listen below and enjoy yourself:

EDEN XO “TORN - DON’T STOP BELIEVING”

As if you don’t already know what the song sounds like, here’s “Don’t Stop Believing” for ya, to save you the trouble of Googling it.

(Note: David Spade had a great take about about singers who give shoutouts to the city they’re playing in in their songs: “Thanks asshole, we know where we are.”)

JOURNEY “DON’T STOP BELIEVING (LIVE IN HOUSTON)

The music of Lilith Fair has not aged particularly well, in spite of the obvious artistic imprint it made on several of my favorite artists today. With that in mind, here’s the video for Natalie Imbruglia “Torn,” which the middle school version of me is still pissed that it never once shows her lying naked on the floor therein.

In closing, I’ll leave you with what’s still my favorite cover of “Don’t Stop Believing.” (Sorry Eden. Take solace in the fact that yours isn’t really a true cover.)
