BEST NEW ELECTRONIC: LOPHIILE - NEWNO (WITH MOSS KENA & NICK GRANT)
He’s made some small waves with a couple remixes of songs by EDM bigshot Zedd, but it seems Washington-borne/LA based producer, Lophiile, has been secretly working on a bigger plan for world domination. His last single, “Preach,” came out last year and he’s been slowly building his production credits. But Lophiile is back with a tune all of his own; one that’s as spacey as Buzz Aldrin moving to Mars. Here’s “Newno” featuring Moss Kena and Nick Grant.
LOPHIILE - NEWNO (WITH MOSS KENA & NICK GRANT)
The vibes that “Newno” exudes is ‘80s sci-fi realness -- except I can’t stop thinking that the intro sounds like a re-imagined version of the tune to the opening scene of A Clockwork Orange. Yes, there’s an inexplicably mysterious flair to the track, but once Nick Grant starts to rap, and especially when Moss Kena comes in with her bewitching voice in the chorus, “Newno” settles into a slow burn of synthy goodness. Make no mistake. The features are good, but the highlight in this track is the production itself. Sit back, put on some 3-D glasses or something, and revel.
Zedd’s totally on board with Lophiile’s music and has enlisted him for his tour later this year. Our prediction? Dude is gonna blow up, so We Are: The Guard’s suggestion? Don’t sleep on him! Stay tuned for more atmospheric releases and productions. He’s just getting started.
