BEST NEW INDIE: BRUNO MAJOR - ON OUR OWN
A couple months back, We Are: The Guard told you about Bruno Major, the talented singer-slash-pianist making waves with his elegant, slice-of-life compositions he’s been consistently releasing (ahem, “Places We Won’t Walk”?). We warned y’all. So don’t stay sleeping on him: He’s just come out with a collection of songs that he’s accumulated within the last year, titled A Song for Every Moon. Listen to the final track from the project, “On Our Own” down below and cry with me. It’s good for the soul.
BRUNO MAJOR - ON OUR OWN
The most captivating thing about Bruno Major’s music is how he packs so much intensity within quiet spaces. “On Our Own” is a song about loss, tying in spirituality and how it relates to grief. Major found inspiration through the death of his grandmother, so the content matter is certainly not light. But he creates such lofty atmospheres that the brevity eclipses all of this.
This is no implication that the subject matter takes a backseat behind the instrumentals. When Major swoops in to belt the chorus, his vocals sound so earnest and full of vigor, it’s impossible not to feel it reverberate in your chest. “On Our Own” is a highlight off of Bruno Major’s collection of songs, even if it’ll chip away at your own personal vulnerabilities. Crying is good sometimes. I promise.
Bruno Major will be heading on a short tour later this year, and he’s already selling out shows. Kid is going places, guys. Give his romantic A Song for Every Moon a conscious listen over on Soundcloud.
