BEST NEW INDIE: MINES FALLS - MY NEW HOUSE
Happy belated Thanksgiving from all of us here at We Are: The Guard, as this newest song from Mines Falls called “My New House” will make those dramatic moments at the dinner table erase from your memory. So, digest those turkey leftovers and dive right into something that will pluck at your heartstrings.
MINES FALLS - MY NEW HOUSE
Mines Falls channels their inner sorrow with “My New House”, a track off of the forthcoming album “Nepenthe,” which is a Greek word first mentioned in Homer's “Odyssey” as an anti-sadness drug. As the project of the brothers Lund, Carson, and Erik, Mines Falls is an ambitious musical group that hopes to reinvent the simplicity of piano-driven ballads into something more theatrical and faithfully memorable, sticking with your psyche a long time after the final note has concluded.
“My New House,” with its boisterous piano and synthetic backing with guttural echos of its secondary vocals, maintains a steady dose of melancholy that draws upon the expected direction of their album. The main vocals are pleasantly inserted to expand upon this emotional 5-minute long track. This prolonged somber atmosphere of the song really hammers the eardrums with poignancy, renewing the definition of emo music that seems to erase the typical thoughts of kids wearing eyeliners and black clothing. Instinctively, a great deal of people won't enjoy the somber nature of “My New House,” but if you just appreciate each moment with open-mindedness and curiosity, it will make this one more acceptable to listen to. It is definitely not easy to stomach this amount of drama in one sitting.
