BEST NEW INDIE POP: POM POKO - YOU'LL BE FINE
It's no secret that Americans can be a bit uptight—focused on money and stringent when it comes to timing and routine. That's why the music industry sometimes looks to international artists for new inspiration. For instance, Scandinavian are known for their willingness to have a good time, but we're not just talking about Kygo and Aurora anymore. Meet Pom Poko: the four-piece band that isn't interested in following music trends.
POM POKO - YOU'LL BE FINE
"Fun" is the first descriptor that comes to mind when We Are: The Guard listens to Pom Poko's new song "You'll Be Fine." It's the kind of song that would be perfect to sing along to unencumbered— maybe first thing in the morning to wake you up, belting it in your shower, or hidden in a massive music festival crowd.
Besides what their instrumentals invoke, "You'll Be Fine" has a message that should be paid attention to. It is a proclamation of love to yourself no matter what obstacles come your way. On top of playful beats, singer Ragnhild Jamtveit sings on repeat, "Everything you do is fine/ And everything I do is fine / You'll be fine."
It's all about as avant garde as an abstract painting— full of color and strange shapes that make you want to keep staring and reveals something special with each angle. Pom Poko is different because conforming to a hit-making formula is boring. No doubt we'll be watching to see what they come up with next.
