BEST NEW INDIE: SUPERORGANISM - EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE FAMOUS
As one of my goals for 2018, I am committing to a more meme-tastic lifestyle. This means that watching 60-minute compilations on Youtube until 3 AM will be my new norm, and I willingly welcome the insomnia.
Wanna join me? Let’s start with our first video: it’s a 3-minute Internet Peyote trip, filled with multiple abrasive colors, a quickly-becoming-cooler-by-the-second singer, and waaaaay too many cat heads.
If you haven’t heard of Superorganism yet, they’ll be your first obsession of the year. Think of them as a super-indie/hipster version of supergroups like Broken Social Scene, or Brockhampton. Listen and watch their video, “Everybody Wants to Be Famous” down below.
SUPERORGANISM - EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE FAMOUS
It’s like all eight members of Superorganism sat down and debated the question in their song title: how do we become famous? The answer is simple: pack a whole lot of things the Internet loves in three minutes. The video is a wild ride through holograms, lead singer Onoro looking enviously nonchalant behind a green screen, and possible Illuminati symbolism. Because why not, you know?
You can’t deny though, that “Everybody Wants to Be Famous” has got an inescapably catchy feel to it. It takes me back to the kitschy Myspace days of DIY groups and singers mucking around in their bedroom, creating fun PG-13 indie music. The good times!
Superorganism is such an interesting collaboration to see developing; the group is expected to release an album in a couple months. Keep your eyes glued to Youtube with me if -- and when -- they release more weird stuff like this. Fingers crossed.
