Noisia - Collider

Dutch EDM deities NOISIΛ (a.k.a. Noisia) are prepping their third LP, Outer Edges, as we speak. They’ve dropped the first single, “Collider,” as well as a mind-bending video to go along with it.

According to the band, the new record gets its name because: “It’s about us exploring the outer edges of what Noisia is.” They promise no radio-friendly jams or super DJ tracks. In fact, the album is completely devoid of vocals or any other type of collaborations. “Collider” is a good forebears for this idea, as it’s an aggressive cut that jars your senses. The video for “Collider” is more of the same.

Part allusion to the Biblical Rapture (I think), part food hygiene PSA, and then a bunch of other weird sh*t I didn’t fully understand, “Collider” is undeniable transfixing. And the disturbingly odd imagery on display here feels analogous to how my insides react to the typical 4th of July. Perhaps this whole thing is just a metaphor for a long, gluttonous weekend. Or maybe even the West’s habit for compulsive consumption. Only Amsterdam-based director Henk Loorbach knows for sure. If anyone sees him this week could you ask him for us?

Watch the video for “Collider” at your own risk.
