Bassnectar - Was Will Be

Yo, real talk… I’m a bit of a Bassnectar fanboy. Not sure that the editors at We Are: The Guard were at their wisest assigning this one to me if they were looking for an unbiased opinion. But then again, it’s 2017— you’ve either made up your mind about Bassnectar or you just haven’t heard him yet. If you haven’t heard him, why dontcha give him a listen? His new single, “Was Will Be,” seems as good a place as any to start. After that, try Bass Head.

Maybe the main reason I love the man so much is that his music goes all across the map (and back up it) every single time. No two live Bassnectar sets will ever be the same, and his productions have more variation than Heinz Ketchup. Sometimes he’ll make pure hip-hop trap, others it’s Drum & Bass or Breaks and every once in a while he’ll drop on us some good old-fashioned teeth-rattling dubstep. But here we get the very special ethereal space bass Bassnectar. These are the kind of tracks that can bring every single person on every single energy at a music festival together, moving in unison to his hypnotic bass for a brief moment in time. Love him or hate him, but it’s these kind of songs that make him the most interesting man in dance music.

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
