BEST NEW TRACKS: KOPPS - BABY I'M DEAD INSIDE
“True love is overrated.” Can I get an amen?
You know what isn’t, though? Confidence. And in the case of New York band KOPPS, their confidence is leaking out of every orifice. We Are: The Guard want you to check out KOPPS’ new single, “Baby I’m Dead Inside,” a genre-twisting pop song with a dangerous sex appeal.
KOPPS - BABY I'M DEAD INSIDE
“Baby I’m Dead Inside” is by all means a warning; a siren song sung by KOPPS’ coquettish lead singer, telling of her playboy manners. Think “Oops! I Did It Again” except, you know… believable. Patricia Patrón exudes a lethal kind of sexy, and the charged electronic fuzz that the band carries behind their instruments holds weight to her words. Even Patrón’s warped vocals of the pre-chorus aren’t doing much to deter me. Patrón is biblical Eve holding an apple, and I’m left here thinking, “I mean, is exile from Eden really that bad?”
KOPPS also aren’t the type to shy away from being eclectic. There’s a Kidneythieves vibe to their music that is incredibly prevalent, sure. The electronic-fused rock sound works for the band, but that doesn’t stop a little funk from seeping into the guitar. We can also talk about the cowboy-reminiscent whistling in the middle of it all, trying to lighten the mood before Patrón makes like a female praying mantis and engulfs me up. But the catchy synth rock stays at the forefront. Trust me. Listen to KOPPS, and you’ll have a good time.
