BEST NEW TRACKS: THE RADIO DEPT "DEATH TO FASCISM"
2010 wasn't a good year for music. It wasn't a particularly good year for anything else either, but that's a different post on a different blog. One of the lone highlights was Clinging To A Scheme, a wondrous bit of noise and dream pop from Swedish trio, The Radio Dept. Well the boys are back today with the politically charged "Death to Fascism," a cool new song they've decided to release just ahead of general elections in their home country.
The track's lone lyric is just a steady repetition of the phrase, “Smrt fasizmu, sloboda narodu,” which was popularized by Yugoslavian political activist Stjepan Filipović. It quite simply means “Death to fascism, freedom to the people.” Fuck and yes. The music accompanying this sentiment is the same lovely shit The Radio Dept. has been churning out for four albums.
Listen below and vote wisely.
THE RADIO DEPT. "DEATH TO FASCISM"
Perhaps we're the only people whose minds work this way, but hearing the word 'fascism' made us think of The Young Ones, where they seemingly made it a point to use the word once per episode. And truthfully, we'll use any excuse we can get to show a clip from that tremendous show.
THE YOUNG ONES - LETTER TO THE BANK MANAGER
No word yet on whether "Death to Fascism" is a one-off or a part of something bigger from The Radio Dept. If we get any further info on this, we'll let ya know.
Thanks for stopping by Bitcandy, Smrt fasizmu, sloboda narodu.
