M83s Videos You Should Know

11/20/12

Yes, yes, we know that you <3 M83. We know that Hurry Up, We're Dreaming was your favorite album of last year, if not ever. And that there's no better album to listen to on (insert your drug of choice here). We're wholly aware of all that.

But did you know that, while it was the Frenchman's masterpiece, it wasn't his first album?

Oh, you did? You also know how to use Google? Interesting…

Well maybe that makes this whole post pointless (then again, what blog post isn't?), but we're gonna finish up anyway*.

Just in case you're not familiar with some of M83's earlier albums, like the critically acclaimed Saturday = Youth, or the more under the radar but just as good Before the Dawn Heals Us, we've decided to give you a sampler/introduction to those albums. Video style.

A great deal of M83's appeal comes from his ability to harness nostalgia for the carefree days of one's youth. He didn't just start doing that, but as the video for "Don't Save Us From the Flames" shows, he's been honing that skill for a long time.

"Graveyard Girl," the second single off Saturday = Youth, is another example of one of the things M83 does better than everyone else, i.e. romanticizing something no one else would think to romanticize.

In all seriousness, if you enjoyed Hurry Up, We're Dreaming and haven't checked out M83's previous work, head over to iTunes, Spotify, or wherever and rectify that shit immediately.

Thanks for stopping by Bitcandy's Blogs On Music, where we're always pumped to tell you about the back-catalogs of bands you're already aware of.

* Yes I know, 'that's what she said'. What a hilarious observation you just made.
