Best Songs Ever: The Time 'Jungle Love'
Today in Best Songs Ever: The Time, aka, “that band in Purple Rain, who Prince kinda hated.” But, for the love of Morris Day! That zoot suitin', bitch stealin' playboy had some moves. I mean c'mon let's jump back and enjoy the 80s and Minneapolis.
In reality, Prince was a close associate of The Time. The band released three albums over the course of the 80s: The Time, What Time Is It? and Ice Cream Castle. The song which y'all just watched, “Jungle Love,” is lifted from the latter album, which dropped in 1984.
In the vein of most of The Time's material, all the instruments that you hear in “Jungle Love,” bar the guitar, were played by Prince. Following the success of Purple Rain, the song peaked at #20 on the Hot 100 - The Time's second highest charting after “Jerk Out.”
“Jungle Love” was featured in the films, Bringing Down The House and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Morris Day and co also performed the song in the 2001 comedy masterpiece, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. So “don't you ever say an unkind word about The Time!”:
But shit is all about Purple Rain... Wait, what's that? You have never seen the film? Are you freekin' crazy? Sit down, shut up and watch this trailer. Hurry, before Prince takes it down:
I, I've been watching you. I think I wanna know ya.
Said I, I'm a little dangerous. Girl, I'd love to show ya.
My jungle love, yeah. I think I wanna know ya.
Jungle love. Girl, I'd love to show ya.
You, you've got a pretty car. I think I wanna drive it.
I ain't playin', said I drive a little dangerous. Take you to my crib, rip you off.
Come on baby, where's your guts? You wanna make love or what?
I wanna take you to my cage, lock you up and hide the key.
You only get water, baby. Cuz if you're hungry, take a bite of me.
I think I wanna ... I wanna file my nails.
Jungle love, that's right. Can't nobody fuck with me?
I got a bearskin rug, I got a fireplace too.
And I'm all the way wild baby. All the things I could do to you.
