BEST NEW TRACKS: DAWN GOLDEN "LAST TRAIN (DAKTYL REMIX)"

7/24/14

It seems like Dawn Golden's remixes get more attention than his debut EP, Still Life. Whether or not that's the case isn't for us to decide, but Dawn Golden "Last Train (Daktyl Remix)" is a top new song any way you slice it.

British DJ, Daktyl, is going where Diplo went before him, as all DJs inevitably do, and he more than holds his own on while remixing Dawn Golden. He keeps the dream-pop feel of the original, while adding a series of pulsing EDM tricks that don't take away from the song's laid-back, stripped-down nature. It's an impressive trick, transforming a song without splitting its equilibrium. This song arguably works better as the hybrid Dub-R&B vehicle Daktyl's remix has left in his wake. Nothing against the original -- which is both great and streaming for comparison purposes below -- but I'm definitely preferring this version of it. Decide for yourself by listening with your own ears now:

Because we actually liked Still Life, here's Golden's original take on the song:
