DUFFSTER'S 9 EMERGING CANDY/ARTIST PICKS: WEEK 6
So we have the Brit awards this week, my personal favourite awards bash & this year they're beaming it live via the net, to the world for the first time... well except if you're actually in the UK - you need to watch it on TV - great logic that. It must be because we have Lorde performing with the golden boys Disclosure. Whatever it is, the talent is pretty unreal this year & I hope London Grammar get the Breakthrough nod - along with the usual dose of profanity over glitz & glam that'll be on show.
We've brought you some exciting new talent this week to wrap your ears around, Including Crystal Bats, Mononoke, Hasley & introducing CMBSTN....
CRYSTAL BATS - FALLING IN LOVE
And we'll kick this off with a two-piece who won't be bagging a Brit this year, but who knows what 2014 has for the electro-pop duo Will & Will aka Crystal Bats. This will be huge hit for them. The killer chorus and a visual that'll have you hit repeat, we're rolling back to the 80's baby.
HASLEY - GHOST
Here we have Hasley and that is where the info stops. Okay, she likes leather & the number 7. Fear not because we'll hear far more of her when the blogsosphere latches on to this awesome debut, "Ghost," that packs enough attitude and swagger to blow the beats off that pretty little head of yours.
CMBSTN - MY FRIEND
Let us introduce you to Stockholm's latest BIG fish in CMBSTN (Combustion, if you failed there). Four bad ass leather clad Swedes, who I (you too) would expect RAAAWWWR vocals from if we are to judge a book by its hook. What we get is a silky pristine vocal delivered over their rooted indie-rock roots & washed with a wall of synth. It is the most polished effort to-date. It's also Bitcandy's first transition from our residence @Fluence_app which supports awesome new music - CMBSTN are delivering that vibe we're all over! We suggest you head over & get familiar/following the latest Swedish band your hipster friend wasn't savvy enough to discover before your credible ass, yeah.
MEANWHILE - LUVLETTA
PRINCEEEEE! You can't listen to this track without being dragged towards the purple one, as obvious as it is - and with the intentional? lack of info for 'Meanwhile,' we'll just assume it's a play in the rain with no other tracks to go on - bar some collabz via the tube. I don't care, coz' this? Crazy LUV skillz!
MONONOKE - BONES & GLORY
Elusive as Mononoke is, there is also this open invite her music is trying (succeeding) to invoke within us, straight from the first crackle - there is sense of nostalgia, warmth & mystery that completely wraps the listener. It's a wonderful follow-up to the debut "Alice" and this is exactly why we put Mononoke up as part of our 2014 ones-to-watch, quality.
LOVESTARRS - GET YOUR SEXY ON
Formerly known as The Good Natured, London based trio, Lovestarrs, will release this huge pop banger, "Get Your Sexy On," as their debut single, and it may just be the biggest hook you've heard in the early stages of 2014 thus far. They were binned and banned by their major label from releasing the debut album. This is how you respond to the suits, get it on.
PAUL CONRAD - GO CRAZY (JEEZY COVER)
Very rare I spin a cover via our playlist - unless it's completely unique, and there is your answer. Influential source Neon Gold call this out as "arguably one of the best covers in recent history!" Who am I to argue with that, more so when the original was a rap song I hadn't heard. Conrad is coining the male equivalent to Lana Del Rey - fair enough, yeah, but how about his two original tracks, or that morbid Nirvana cover? Such a fine vocal, really. Look out for his forthcoming single; we're told it's going to be a stunner.
THE HANGED MAN - FIRST TIME DREAMING
Stockholm's Rebecka Rolfart has played guitar/bass for a couple of other bands and now she's got her own solo project, The Hanged Man, with the first single as haunting as the moniker suggests. She also happens to direct this visual too & has our attention with this dark pop debut.
CARI CARI - NO WAR
Luckily enough this latest post was held up a few days which in turn means I can share this great follow-up track from Austrian pair Cari Cari - a track we were fortunate to get in advance of the release. "NO WAR" is the duo's second single ahead of the debut EP. I thought the first track, "White Line Fever," had some of the best guitar play I've heard this year, and true to form Alexander Kock delivers more beastly riffs! Stephanie Widmer's vocals are a joy to the ear. Go grab the free download!
See ya next week, keep it Bitcandy!
