ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 36
Raise your hand if you’re even reading this article this week or is everybody just at Burning Man. I know that the overlap between EDM Freaks and Burners is relatively minimal, but I like to think that number is getting closer and closer by the year. Fuck, I just wish I was at Burning Man right now instead of sitting inside of my hot apartment reviewing songs for your aural pleasure. Wouldn’t it be fun to be dancing our asses off on the playa, no sign of the internet?
Well lucky for you I’m here to give you all the new songs. Awesomeness from Will Sparks, Amtrak Kaskade, Dirty South and LO’99. Fire week… and no not Burning Man.
AMTRAC - HOLD ON
Here's some new deep fire from Amtrak, with a vocal hook that I want to listen to on top of every single track ever right now, and deep groovy vibes and garage drums. Amtrac has been killing it since day one, but it’s always nice to see one of your fav artists continue to knock it out of the ballpark. VIBES are strong on this one.
AFROJACK & STEVE AOKI FEAT. MISS PALMER - NO BEEF (REEZ REMIX)
Gonna be honest. Can’t even wrap my head around the fact that there isn’t a big progressive house remix of this tune. But then again in 2011/2012 people were just letting songs play out more, especially one as bomb as No Beef. It isn’t the Miss Palmer hook that made this track special though… it was Afrojack and Steve Aoki no holds barred throwing dutch house into the public eye. But whatever clever, you know? Track still works.
WILL SPARKS - SICK LIKE THAT (FEAT. LUCIANA)
Will Sparks taking Bounce to a whole new level. Long gone are the big builds and huge drops, here he just plays us some straight up bounce beats, gotta keep with the times and I appreciate him for that. Fun pop vocal from Luciana help round this track out.
FLUX PAVILION - WHO WANTS TO ROCK FT. RIFF RAFF
Who woulda thunk that Flux Pavilion and RiFF RAFF would have been the perfect combination. RiFF is the perfect MC to lay some shit on top of Flux’s video game bleeps and bloops and then they cut his shit up real nice to lay on top of his grinding dubstep bassline.
KASKADE - WE DON'T STOP
How is this dude SO consistent? It’s like every song he touches is absolutely gorgeous music. Did Kaskade make some deal with the devil to be the greatest most important EDM music producer of our time? Never pumping out garbage, always pumping out quality. Somethings wrong here. JK, he’s just awesome.
DIRTY SOUTH FT. RUDY - FIND A WAY
Same goes for Dirty South, mind you. Every track he touches is beautiful, with lots of soul and amazing production flourishes. Here Dirty South teams back up with Rudy (who is featured on some his best tracks) and it’s quite the lovely melodic house tune. Maybe he and Kaskade made a deal with the devil together. While everyone else gets worse, we’ll just keep getting better and more respected and more popular. COOL!
LO'99 - ALL NIGHT
A Groovy Deep House killer we got right here. Always exciting to hear new music from a new name that promises as much as any headliner out there right now. LO’99 is basically saying “yo I’m the future pay attention cause this song is fire and you didn’t even know you could be surprised anymore.” Well thanks, bro.
DIPLO & SLEEPY TOM - BE RIGHT THERE
A couple of months ago Diplo says that he’s retiring the Diplo name, and now he drops some pretty generic (although also, completely quality) future house with Sleepy Tom. Go ahead and keep your promise Dip and go away.
AEROPLANE - PAGE ONE IS LOVE
Aeroplane with that new fire banger, Jesus. Some straight piano house with simple chords and even simpler vocal sample. This is destined to be a disco classic, maybe because it’s emulating classic sounds. Whatever the case, I’m glad to have it in my ears.
GINA TURNER & TONY QUATTRO FT. KEEON - TOP CAT
Gina Turner and Tony Quattro make fire separately, so it’s nice to see these two artists come together and makes something pretty special. Breakbeat drums, muted trumpets, police sirens (for once not in dutch house), they are throwing every trick in the book to make something unique and special. Gotta love the weird.
MAYBE WE'LL ALL CAMP TOGETHER AT THE BURN 2016.
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
