BILLIE EILISH - &BURN FEAT. VINCE STAPLES
Last time we heard from Billie Eilish was the beginning of summer when she dropped the heavily-anticipated “Watch,” a track loaded with character and drama that seemed well beyond her age. Barely in the midst of her teenage years, the musical press is already deeming her a prodigy at the craft, drawing comparisons to former sensation, Lorde. At the tender age of fifteen, Eilish is already beyond the indie world and already signed with Interscope. With a voice that is somewhere located in between MØ and Halsey, her following up rehashing of “Watch” that is renamed “&burn” is sure to be as memorable as the original.
Luckily, Eilish has a credible cameo from just down the 710 Freeway with LBC-based wunderkind, Vince Staples. The slow pace of “&burn” definitely delivers a slow and satisfying experience, where Staples' appearance is a pleasant surprise that somehow flows and drifts across without much disruption. Meant to be an accompanying sequel to “Watch,” “&burn” should draw the same sort of praise as the former. But being so similar to the first entry, some patrons might feel a little bit cheated with “&burn” as it sounds more of a remix version than an accompaniment. To each his own.
