INDIE CHRISTMAS: JAMIE LIDELL - DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR
It's that time of the year once again here at We Are: The Guard where we blast Christmas carols everyday and all day, but not just any Christmas songs. C’mon, this year we’ve gone all out and did our very own Christmas compilation featuring some of the best indie artists at the moment, one of them being Jamie Lidell who puts his own personal spin on “Do You Hear What I Hear.”
Currently living in Nashville, Tennessee, transplanted British musician Jamie Lidell is probably one of the most prolific indie artists in the entire world, having his songs hit mainstream listeners through such means as Grey's Anatomy and Red Dead Redemption. In the midst of experimentally meshing several different musical styles, his new-age soul vocals has been the consistent contribution of Lidell. Over a decade of fantastic contributions, he has given his take on this holiday classic.
JAMIE LIDELL - DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR
His interpretation of “Do You Hear What I Hear” is entirely unrecognizable of its original incarnation, but stuck in the midst of holiday shopping filled with the typical holiday soundtrack, Lidell's version is surely a breath of fresh air. As someone who worked at a retail shop during the holiday rush, you can only listen to so much Mariah Carey's “All I Want For Christmas Is You” before stabbing your eardrums with a coat hanger. Aside from the typical sleigh bells, the track is like a psychedelic rehashing that is worthy of play even for those not of the Christian persuasion. Is it Kosher? Well, find a Rabbi. For everyone else, it sounds like the holidays for even the snobbiest of musical snobs.
