INDIE POP - WEEK 39

9/26/16
Untitled by Steven Arnold

As the music snobs that I assume you all are, I’m going to make another assumption and assume that you will absolutely without a doubt totally dig today’s selection of the Best Indie/Alternative Pop Songs of the week. Today’s top artists include Leon Else, SG Lewis, and Beck. Obviously, there are more acts on the list, but one doesn’t experience full nirvana without a little bit of teasing. Dan Dan Dan Daaaaaan (sound of anticipation). Did I just compare this post to that of perfection?! Yeah, I did. This is ear bliss. Enjoy it and be sure to share it.

LEON ELSE - BLACK CAR

Leon Else has stepped out of a cookie cutter pop sound and has taken a drastic turn into a character that strays from what the music industry is use to hearing. His style explores dark tones and exposes the complexity of his persona. As far as his single “Black Car,” it could be described as a hair raising progressive track with a very dark twist.

SG LEWIS - MEANT TO BE

SG Lewis sends us down a groovy laidback sound that will strike something deep inside of you. “Meant To Be,” taken from his upcoming debut EP Yours New, features the producers very own vocals. Have a listen above and enjoy the message behind the lyrics.

BECK - WOW

Ah, yes, the wonderful world of Beck. How I’ve missed his quirky expressive style. Here we hear it all, we’ve got some rap, a bit of trap, R&B, and a whole lot of funky dory dance moves, and beautiful visuals that leaves one saying “wow.”

LUNA SHADOWS - HALLELUJAH CALIFORNIA (CURATOR JESS G)

When Luna Shadow first came out with her debut single we were pretty much all over her. Now, with her second release “Hallelujah California,” she has left us completely hypnotized with her gorgeous vocals, amazing musical talent, and beautiful retro inspired video that pays tribute to the wonderful city of Los Angeles.

VANIC FT. KATY TIZ - SAMURAI

I’m pretty sure the Pixies had a heavy influence for Vanic’s latest production, “Samurai.” Aside from the noteable guitar riff in the background, Katy Tiz contributes her sharp vocals to a mellow track that can easily be enjoyed by everyone.

OLIVER NELSON FT. KALEEM TAYLOR - AIN’T A THING

Oliver Nelson delivers some pretty tasteful beats and with Kaleem Taylor's vocals blending so well with the nu disco vibes, this track is nothing short of hella SEXY. Ya, that’s a pretty bold statement but all truth no bull. Soak up the goodness because music like this doesn’t come often.

MONDO COZMO - SHINE

Mondo Cozmo revives a sound that I thought was lost. It’s the kind of musical style that touches your soul. It’s almost gospel-like, a sense of being closer to a higher being or at least just very open and appealing to both white and blue collar individuals. His music is realistic and has a strong reflective way about it that makes listeners realize that this is something huge. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you listen to “Shine” above.

CONFIDENCE MAN - BOYFRIEND (REPEAT)

I don’t know how many here today can relate to the lyrics of “Boyfriend.” I won’t say who, but someone I know is going through the exact same thing. It’s a repeat of what they had before and love just ain’t enough. Somehow the Brisbane indie group Confidence Man, makes the subject a bit lit thanks to their deconstructed dance floor beat. It’s one funky feel good listen.

TINASHE - COMPANY

Tinashe is bold, blunt, seductive, and many other synonyms of sexy. Everything she’s delivered has been pure fire and her newest single, “Company,” is muy muy cliente (translation: mega hot). The lyrics are very straight forward and leave an open invitation to those wanting to take her up on company. Just don’t get attached.

GIRLI - GIRL I MET ON THE INTERNET (AUDIO)

FLAMES! Fire emoji, fire emoji. Brat pop pioneer GIRLI, shows off her ability of creating catchy music that holds significant lyrics. I know this may be a bit off pitch for some, but there is no denying that GIRLI is the voice of awkward youth. She’s very fresh and saucy, two elements that make her very charming.

That’s all for this list. Be sure to support the artists you love and mention that BitCandy sent ya!.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
