LAWRENCE ROTHMAN - AIN'T AFRAID OF DYING FEAT. MARISSA NADLER
Man, I really miss Leonard Cohen. You Want It Darker was a momentous last effort from the late crooner, and “Hallelujah” will be on most of my playlists for the rest of my years. But life is just one big circle, and if anyone wants to step up and take his place, might We Are: The Guard suggest a replacement? Los Angeles based artist Lawrence Rothman’s voice is large and memorable in his latest single, “Ain’t Afraid of Dying,” and I swear to god, he gives the greatest Cohen impression. Honest. Cross my heart.

LAWRENCE ROTHMAN - AIN'T AFRAID OF DYING
According to a brief interview with The Fader, “Ain’t Afraid of Dying” reflects a time when Rothman discovered a friend of his was suffering from a rare illness, and according to his Facebook, the track is the singer’s favorite song he’s ever written. The vulnerability from the real-life situation is evident in his voice. And yes, “Ain’t Afraid of Dying” is sentimental, but it’s also got an attractive lo-fi aesthetic; like slow-dancing at midnight with a lover in the middle of your living room, or singing karaoke to an empty, seedy bar. Just go ahead and listen to “Ain’t Afraid of Dying” with the lights dimmed low.
“Ain’t Afraid of Dying” is released in anticipation for Lawrence Rothman’s debut album, The Book of Law, which is slated for release in October. Expect even more thoughtful, artistic pieces from Rothman very soon.
