11 New Indie Music Picks from Curator, Duffster

10/24/13

So the Kardashian bandwagon is at full steam this week after Kim showed off two HUGE rings! I must confess, that is one big mofo ass she has to wipe for at least 72 days. At least her own arse is pretty fine. I've got some tasty indie music this week including THE WOMBATS, SAY LOU LOU, NICK MULVEY + two promising female acts in MARYANN VASQUEZ & INDIANA! Let's get started. (Artwork by the amazing N.S. David).

NICK MULVEY - NITROUS

Heard Nick Mulvey in session on Huw Stephens midnight show last week and was impressed with this track. I did a quick search on him the following morning and found this brilliant interactive video for "Nitrous" - just click on the boxes to hear different parts of the song. It's as clever as that infectious chorus.

MARYANN VASQUEZ - TURN YOU DOWN

On the cusp of igniting the blogosphere is Maryann Vasquez with her truly great debut EP, Due. This R&B singer/songwriter (throw in producer too) has such a quality voice. Her EP doesn't have a bad track & the potential is huge here that it won't be long before her sound is all over the interweb. Be shrewd and grab a FREE limited download of the EP via Soundcloud whilst she's still under-the-radar; it won't last long.

LANA DEL REY - GODS & MONSTERS (MOKADEM REMIX)

Not sure if any other artist is remixed as much as LDR? But, this from emerging London producer Mokadem is by far one of the most original remixes you'll find - "The original is such a big band song and it's so colourful and youthful, but when you strip off everything but her voice it's really hollow and chilling." The result? bang tidy!

THE WOMBATS - YOUR BODY IS A WEAPON

One of the UK's finest indie bands returns with their first track since the release of 2011's The Wombats present… This Modern Glitch. "Your Body Is A Weapon" is as per from The Wombats, catchy and playful + the remix from R3HAB is worth noting.

SEAWAVES - BORN TO FLY

Love a good dose of Dreampop? Good, this track from Manchester duo Si Van Brussel and Dan Traynor sits proudly swirling around the chest, just the rush all good DP should deliver.

GOSSLING - HARVEST OF GOLD

Former 'find' here back in April was Australia's Gossling. Her new album is due soon and "Harvest Of Gold" is the title track - another stellar display of that unique vocal, the closest I've heard her resemble Sweden's Sea Lion in terms of almost childlike & enchanting, yet.

INDIANA - MESS AROUND

Much like Vasquez, I expect British bombshell Indiana to be a big noise in 2014. Already getting nice exposure with this vid for "Mess Around" and quickly gaining a steady flow of support. Potential to join our top female indie acts here.

ERIK HASSLE - TALK ABOUT IT

Back after a 2 year break? I didn't notice, however Sweden's Erik Hassle has dropped a huge soulful track on his return. I reckon the Prince tag is generous, but it's a damn fine vocal, for sure.

SAY LOU LOU - BETTER IN THE DARK

Is it possible for these Stockholm ladies to drop anything other than great music? Careful what you [insert] next, much like Lauren Mayberry, this duo don't want to hear how much you'd enjoy anal with 'em. That's you trolled.

SIGUR ROS - RAFSTRAUMUR (CYRIL HAHN REMIX)

Cyril Hahn can do no wrong at present, his fantastic EP is bolstered with this fucking peach of a remix + visual for Sigur Ros' "Rafstraumer" track, ...class.

ROMAN NOSE - COMING FOR YOU

I had a few tracks in mind to end this post with a Halloween theme. But, Glasgow's very own Roman Nose dropped another sick dark electronic beat earlier this month and it's the very tune I'll be scaring those pesky trick-or-treaters with next week, MWAHAHA!

See ya next week for another batch of new indie music, Keep it fresh, Keep it BitCandy, Biatches!
