NEW INDIE POP: PHOEBE RYAN - BE REAL
The category "pop music" has loose terms. In its most basic form, "pop" is short for "popular," meaning pop music can encapsulate any sort of song that would appeal to the masses. Pop just sounds good, no matter who you are or where you come from or what your mood. Pheobe Ryan's music exemplifies "pop music" in that no one can deny how catchy her music has been.
PHOEBE RYAN - BE REAL
Now, Ryan is back with a new single called "Be Real" and it's about as shimmery as a spinning disco ball. We're not saying the jam is like a throwback to the decoration's '60s prime, but that it is so affecting that it commands you to look up and watch it glisten. Ryan describes her poetic yearning for a no-bullshit kind of love—asking questions like,"But baby am I enough?" She admits to using alcohol to numb the pain that comes with an uncertain romance. And while the melody and words are far from bubblegum, she doesn't shy away from using Britney Spears-style "ohs" and "yeahs" to showcase her pipes. Ryan's latest performance marks that sweet spot that makes a hit song—it's vulnerable, but not without a glamorous mask.
We anticipate that this release, plus an upcoming headline tour, means even more new music is on the way.
