Pennywise - Let Us Hear Your Voice

4/3/12

When I was a teenager the best outlet I could find for all my pent-up adolecent angst, besides of course masturbation, was punk rock. One of my favorite songs during this time was "Fuck Authority" by the punk legends Pennywise. I wasn't sure who this authority was, or why we're fucking them, but my hormone-riddled body was fully on the side of Pennywise in this fight and I didn't care who knew it. I would cruise around in my 88 Volvo Station wagon blaring that song while conducting boxing matches with the steering wheel.

Now certainly a lot has changed in my life since then, but I felt a surge of familiar rebellious feelings this morning when I listened to "Let Us Hear Your Voice," the debut single off Pennywise's 11th studio album All or Nothing, their first in four years.

With a heavy dose of pick slides, distortion and anti-authoritarian lyrics, Pennywise has revived a part of my teenage angst. In many ways, "Let Us Hear Your Voice" seems like a sequel to "Fuck Authority." Both lyrically and with its musical pathos this song emits a simple yet eloquent fuck you to modernity. And regardless of what kind of music you're into, I feel like that's a sentiment we can all take a moment to enjoy.

You can buy this song on iTunes right effing now. All or Nothing is out May 1st.
