Every year music snobs *ehm* what I meant to say...music enthusiasts and professionals swarm into Austin, Texas with the hopes of discovering new musical acts as well as catching a live show of some more well known bands. This year marks our first year covering the SXSW Music festival under our new name, We Are: The Guard, but this isn’t our first time around at the rodeo. Nope, we’ve been at it for forever years, and have discovered some top talent like Mother Falcon, Troye Sivan, POWERS, and others indie artists that give us more than plenty of reasons to continue coming each and every year. Some say we’re addicts, but we fall into the category of kick ass music junkies who uncover music worth sharing.

So to all you fellow music lovers who aren’t here with us, check out the highlights we covered on Tuesday and be sure to check back in tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, and the day after that, and all week long as we continue to trek through the drunken crowds and sweaty bodies in order to bring you the best of the best in indie music at SXSW 2017.

Highlights:

THE OCTOPUS PROJECT

The band has been at it since 2002 creating some incredible psychedelic sounds. Their show at the Mazda Studio was one of the best of the night. They had two drummers and their show can best be described as an experimental hot chip. - Christopher Chan

THE DIG

The other highlight of the night was The Dig, who seemed to have received a makeover. They were mega energetic and definitely the most pumped up of the night. You’ll dig what you hear here.

Of course these two acts weren’t the only great performances that we were able to check out. Other notable and worth listening are mentioned below in no particular order.

About Beca Arredondo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
