SXSW 2017: WEDNESDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Our photographer Christopher Chan and We Are: The Guard’s joyful bunch roamed the crowds of SXSW to pick out some of the best sounds of the day. We conclude that there was too much music to hear and too little time to catch it all, but the indie bands we saw did not disappoint. From pop to rock and everything in between plus a beer in our hand here are the top shows in no particular order.
LEGGY @ B.D. Riley’s
We celebrated an early St. Particks Day at B.D. Riley's, an Irish pub on 6th, with the garage rock band from Cinncinati, OH. Veronique Allaer sings lead vocals backed by her best friend Kirstin Bladh on the bass guitar. If you liked Metric before they turned pop (so their first two albums) you'll enjoy Leggy. - C.Chan
VAGABON @ The Sidewinder at Ground Control Touring
We next headed down Red River to The Sidewinder to check out this band from New York. And who knew, sometimes Bitchfork gets it right (a broken clock is right twice a day, :P). And in this case we'll double down with them as Laetitia Tamko of Vagabon is one to watch. Tamko shined in this intimate at capacity venue when she sang "Fear & Force."
TEI SHEI @ Empire Control Room - Neon Gold
MATT MAESON @ Empire Control Room - Neon Gold
HIPPO CAMPUS @ Empire Control Garage - SPIN
SAN FERMIN @ Bar 96
BANKS @ Bar 96
CHERRY GLAZERR @ Elysium - KCRW
GIRLPOOL @ The Sidewinder - Ground Control Touring
EISLY @ Central Presbyterian Church
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
