Today's Candy: Public Image Ltd - Rise

6/12/12

John Lydon is best remembered as the Rotten front man of The Sex Pistols.

So it's funny, then, that his most innovative work came after 1977, once the Pistols had split and (having failed in securing the front man slot in DEVO), he formed Public Image Ltd – one of the first, and one of the best, post-punk bands ever (seriously, their second album, Metal Box, is a muso must-have!).

So put your copy of Never Mind the Bollocks to one side, and check out Today's Candy, “Rise,” instead...

This track is taken from PIL's fifth album, the awesome Album, which was released in 1986. It is about the apartheid struggles in South Africa, and features gnarly guitar work courtesy of Mr. Steve Vai.

Wrap your eyeballs around the official video below (warning: Lydon's death-stare may melt your face off) and then grab the download after the jump!

Lyrics:

I could be wrong. I could be right.
I could be wrong.

I could be wrong, I could be right,
I could be black, I could be white,
I could be right, I could be wrong,
I could be white, I could be black.

Your time has come, your second skin.
You climb so high and gain so low.
Walk through the valley.
The written word is a lie.

May the road rise with you. (4x)

I could be wrong. I could be right.
I could be wrong. I could be right.

I could be wrong, I could be right,
I could be black, I could be white,
I could be right, I could be wrong,
I could be black, I could be white.

They put a hotwire to my head
'cuz of the things I did and said.
They made these feelings go away,
but those feelings get in every way.

May the road rise with you. (4x)

Anger is an energy. (4x)

May the road rise with you. (4x)

Anger is an energy. (4x)
