TOP DANCE MUSIC - WEEK 29 2014
What's up on the Internet? Read any good blogs or watch any good YouTube videos lately? Re-connect with any old friends on FacBok or InstraGraham lately?
What about music? Did you hear any music that made your ears happy and your butts wiggle? I sure did. Here are just 10/10,000 examples of beautiful (or not so beautiful) music that happened on the internet in the past stretch of time that's been equivalent to the last past stretch of time.
RL GRIME - CORE
Just as I hear myself saying out loud for the 100th time, "I'm completely over trap," I am reminded that I should shut the fuck up and stop speaking in absolutes. RL Grime continues to impress me with every piece of production he unleashes. Here in "Core," he uses some of those Egyptian trap DJ Snake sounds but slows them down and absolutely crushes it. Packaged with this beautiful Sus Boy music video and I am in trap heaven. Gives me faith for at least a couple more months. :)
ALESSO - TEAR THE ROOF UP
I love it when Alesso goes hard. He's been so prog-housey and white noisy and anthemic for the past couple of years and I haven't been liking it. But here he comes back with some shit that made me fall in love with Alesso in the first place. This is like hearing Nillionaire with fresh ears. Also, i heard this song at Axwell & Ingrosso's set at EDC which was life-changing (as always). Love it.
FEED ME - PATIENCE
Feed Me is awesome. Like the Deadmau5 of electro funk, making pulsating soothing melodies that carry you along a song rather than the ups and downs of the rest of the genre. Feed Me locks you into his grooves and takes you on his psychedelic electro journey. This is Rad as Fuck or RAF and I can't wait to hear and see more as Feed Me says fuck you to DJ sets and starts leaning towards the headliner status he apparently deserves. Everyone and their sister says his live teeth show is one of the best things they've ever seen. Maybe he is the next mau5!
MAT ZO - PYRAMID SCHEME (FEAT. CHUCK D) [BRANCHEZ REMIX]
Branchez popping on to remix this track and make one of the raddest songs of the year even radder. I liked Mat Zo experimenting with hip-hop sounds and working with Chuck D to make something special, but let's put it in the hands of one of the kings of electronic hip-hop and see what he does. Oh, this? Rad.
DISCLOSURE - WHEN A FIRE STARTS TO BURN (C2C REMIX)
C2C are special. I saw them at Coachella couple of years back and they look like they are the scratching version of a boy band. They dance and battle and goof off, but hoo-boy are they fun as hell. And you know what, their music is fucking awesome. This Disclosure remix is the freshest one since Flume dropped his "You & Me" remix last year.
SANDER VAN DOORN & FIREBEATZ - GUITAR TRACK (SAM FEIDT REMIX)
I saw the names Sander Van Doorn and Firebeatz and was immediately turned off. But goddamn, Sam Feldt turned this into a horn-driven tropical house gem that I could listen to for days. I guess I shouldn't stick my nose so high up in the air next time, should I?
LUKE MILLION - I FEEL GIORGIO'S LOVE
Here is a cool Giorgio edit from Luke Millon. He only used 4 bars of the Giorgio and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love." The rest was re-assembled in Luke Millon's personal studio. What should we refer to this as? Luke-Million Cover? Luke Millon Re-Assemble? Luke Million Avengers Assemble?
MONARCHY - LIVING WITHOUT YOU (DEAD ROBOT VERSION)
This original Monarchy track is so fucking funky. I was expecting some relatively generic nu-disco remix but NOPE. Here is some low energy, haunting, etherial warehouse after-after party shit. This fits in perfectly with my 70% Erol Alkan horror movie live score sets. It gets dark and glitchy and noisy at the end. Dead Robot, whutupppp??? I lurve being surprised.
AYLEN - QUACK ATTACK
TJR approved, released on Main Course, and Donald Duck sampling this is a straight up comedy party house jam. Or at least my kind of party. Fuck your kind of party. :)
RITON - RITONTIME BATTLE WEAPONS #4 'ALOHA HAZYVILLE'
The second coming of Riton is fire on fire on fire. Here, he's turning his own track, Aloha Surfers, into something completely new for his DJ sets. Throw some old Busta, and Neptunes onto it and turn this into a haunting techno hip-hop club banger. Infinitely more memorable than the original track. Ready for a Riton DJ set now if this is the ish I'm gonna get it. Let's party, dude. You already follow me on Instagram.
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
