TOP DANCE SONGS - WEEK 15

4/7/15

EDM! DANCE MUSIC! RAVING ALL THE TIME! These are a few of my favorite things… and then I just feel super rad! I don’t know about y’all on the east coast but here in the beautiful mecca of Southern California it’s motherfucking SPRING and I want to go outside and SING at the top of my lungs. Too bad all my favorite songs DON’T have lyrics or anything. Oh well, I’ll have to find some new tunes to belt out— and that’s what Soundcloud is for, right? Let’s DIG!

New tunes from hottest dis in the world right now, Pegboard Nerds, SBTRKT, What So Not, !!! and Griz. Okay, it's a good week.

PEGBOARD NERDS - TRY THIS

Oh? You’re telling me that Pegboard Nerds basically just designed a dubstep theme to a faux Mission:Impossible / James Bond video game soundtrack. Okay. Well sign me and every other music loving nerd in the world up, please.

JACK U - WHERE ARE U NOW (INFUZE RE-FLEX)

After Justin Bieber and Diplo came out during Skrillex’s Ultra set and dropped their track “live” the entire world turned a side-eye to the boys and were collectively like “nah, dudes.” So SOMEONE had to come in and save this song from itself. Infuze turns the moombahdeep chiller into a future bass BANGER. Infuze has got all the right ideas and production no-how, turning this track up to 11. I’m sure this is the version we’re going to hear from now on.

WHAT SO NOT - GEMINI FT. GEORGE MAPLE

The beginning of the end for the What so Not boys. Gemini (featuring holy shit what a gorgeous voice singer George Maple) is the first single from their new EP. This will be the last batch of tracks produced by Emoh Instead AND Flume, before Flume goes off to bigger and better things (like being the best dude in music) and Emoh takes the What So Not moniker on all by himself. This beautiful, slow syrupy track is everything that made What So Not amazing, and i’m very sad to see Flume part from the project.

!!! - ALL U WRITERS

Some funky baseline house from my favorite mid 2000’s art punk heroes, !!!. They’ve basically described this track as taking their own stems from a song that wasn’t working and remixing it into the perfect bassline jammer. It’s nice to see artists evolving with the times and stepping up their games to fit in the dance world of today. I fucking love this song and i’m citing it with pick of the WEEK!

DIRTY SOUTH - ID

Dirty South premiered this new track at Ultra last weekend. It’s true to form for the man, mixing emotions and deep soaring progressive house into a warmth that you just want to live in. Props to Dirty South for not playing the game and worrying about Beatport charting and all that shit. While everyone was out one-upping each other in 2013 and 2014 Dirty South decided to go and make a movie instead. Returning to form at Ultra he proves that he’s back and on his terms. Love it.

ATTLAS - CARMEN

Mau5trap ain’t releasing much nowadays, but Mau5 is the dude that brought us Feed Me and Skrillex so it’s pretty much always time to pay attention when something or someONE new drops on the label. Carmen is beautiful, building and progressive, just like the boss man himself.

MAN WITHOUT COUNTRY - LAWS OF MOTION (SEBASTIEN REMIX)

Man without country dropping some CHVRCHES style shoegaze electro pop that’s sure to make them one of the more remixable artists of 2015. Sebastian getting in on the game early, and turning this into a soulful deep banger. This song could be played in most kinds of sets — warehouse vibes, festive vibes, pool party vibes. Except big things for everyone involved.

WITNESS FEAT. AUGUST+US - WAR (ROBIN KNAAK REMIX)

Future house is the future. Everything that could be right is right here. Big drums, big bass, awesome vocal track. You got a good future a head of you song, don’t blow it by becoming the next one hit wonder. Keep up with the future. Get it?

SBTRKT - RENEGADE

Oh whatever, SBTRKT just been dropping weird/complex/beautiful/haunting beats and tracks on his Soundcloud the couple weeks to zero PR and little fanfare. This dude becomes more and more of a legend by the day. Renegade is freaky and fast and a whole lot of fun. These are the kinds of experiments our producers should be making. Thanks for making my week.

GRIZ - GET DOWN (FEAT. SUNSQUABI AND MANIC FOCUS)

The scene is getting funkier by the day and GRiZ is leading the charge. His album Say it Loud dropped at the beginning of  the week and it is loaded with some of the funkiest tunes this side of George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic. Just listen to the whole album okay? Funk’s gonna be your new favorite genre by the end of the year.

About Kurt Kroeber

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
