TOP ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 10

3/8/16
"Fire Dancers" by Shelly Prevost

Alright I’m gonna be honest with you— some weeks I lie. Some weeks I claim the week is stacked with amazing tunes and I’m just saying that because this article has to go off, and no matter how hard I try, how hard I dig, I can’t find ten songs that are gonna rock you like a hurricane. But this week something is different. Maybe it’s because we’re in March now and Ultra / WMC is right around the corner and that’s the true start of the music year for music lovers. But let’s not look a gift horse in the mouth? Let's party to this playlist until we puke. Love ya.

PRETTY LIGHTS - ONLY YESTERDAY

https://www.facebook.com/PrettyLights/videos/10154062999874309/

I ain’t America’s #1 Pretty Lights fan. But when Derek Vincent Smith brings it, it's undeniable. "Only Yesterday" is an emotional soulful jam, with a beautiful music video shot during his 2 night camping Telluride run. This is Pretty Lights at it’s most beautiful… if you like that kind of thing.

ALUNAGEORGE FR. POPCAAN - I'M IN CONTROL (THE MAGICIAN REMIX)

The unheralded king of disco house strikes again. The Magician works his magic (get it? fuck you, Kurt. no fuck you I just want to be silly. oh sorry, okay) all over this track, turning the AlunaGeorge hit into the groover we have on our hands here.

FLUME - NEVER BE LIKE YOU FEAT. KAI (DISCLOSURE REMIX)

Well this one missed the mark. But Disclosure remixing Flume is the biggest news since Dillon Francis remixed Galantis or something. Here’s a couple of masters at work, making lesser work than any of them should ever proudly put their names to.

BROOKES BROTHERS - GOOD TO ME (FEAT. MAJESTY)

Brookes Brothers are absolutely the masters of that emotional liquid drum&bass sound. They know how to write big emotional soaring hook and huge salty, liquid drops. So pumped every time I see a new track from these dudes. Hell, Mista Jam is on board.

DIGITALISM - BATTLECRY

Big party indie-dance influenced electro?! Where have you been the past couple of years? What does Digitalism know that I don’t? Do they not give a shit? They were going in different directions? I’m so so happy they’re going back to the sound that they blew up on.

EYES EVERYWHERE - 2AM IN LA

Um bass house just leveled the fuck up. Sure, Eyes Everywhere have been killing it with releases on Main Course, Perfect Driver, Anabatic and Punks, but this new track, "2AM in LA," is absolute fire. This is like the anthem to leaving a Night Bass club night… literally 2AM in LA.

FOUR TET - EVENING SIDE (ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER EDIT)

What’s up? Oh nothing major, just Oneohtrix Point Never throwing an edit together of an already strange Four Tet house track into one of the spaciest dance music tracks I’ve heard this side of Neil Degrasse Tyson. 100% beautiful strangeness.

FORT KNOX FIVE FEAT. VOCAL COMPANY (MAT THE ALIEN REMIX)

So my favorite music festival is Shambhala. I’m not ashamed it, in fact I scream it from the mountains as often as I can. If you want to know what the music sounds like at Shambhala, this is it in a fucking nutshell… funky drum & bass breaks… oh yeah and silly fun party music. This shit just makes me want to jump on top of a table for about 4 and a half minutes. MAYBE I’m partial, but I don’t think so. I think it's just fun in a can.

GENER8ION - H808

A friend dragged me to Gener8ion at Hard Day of the Dead. But little did I know it was the new project from French house/electro boss, Surkin, otherwise I would have gone gladly. He rebranded himself with a new artist name and changed his sound to fit in on the techno-hip-hop levels of the Bromance squad. This is the middle ground between Surkin and Bromance, and it’s the strongest release the label has seen in a while because of it.

SISTER SLEDGE - HE'S THE GREATEST DANCER (DIMITRI FROM PARIS 2016 REMIX)

In a year of sampling dance music classics for modern ears, here’s one I can finally get behind. Sister Sledge’s "He’s The Greatest Dancer" (with Daft Punk’s Nile Rodgers) is one of the greatest disco tunes of all time. Now Parisian disco maestro Dimtri From Paris gives a version that sonically he can justify playing out in 2016. A+. Why can’t more retro samples be this perfect?

About Kurt Kroeber

From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
