TOP ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 47
This isn’t a great week for anyone out there. This isn’t the forum to talk about how the world is fucked up and we’re all doing it wrong, cause this is a stupid ‘best of dance’ post on a cool website with great taste and even better personality. But I’d be remiss by posting something like “LET'S FORGET ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS AND DANCE LIKE IT'S 2012 STILL AND EVERYTHING IS ON THE COME UP!” There’s a lot going on in the world and even our little community of dance music isn’t safe. Let’s just love each other, and enjoy what we have. Music makes shit better, right?
Ease the pain of life little by little with awesome new music from Kill the Noise, Deadmau5, Riton and Sinden.
KILL THE NOISE - KILL IT 4 THE KIDS (FEAT. AWOLNATION & R. CITY)
I must have ignored Kill it 4 The Kids when I gave the Occult Classic LP a listen, finding AWOLNATION lead singer Aaron Bruno grating and the track unmemorable. But this music video is the best piece of content we’ve seen produced in a long while. Its claymation satire about the state of consumerism and capitalism are on point, and one of the easiest men to hate in dance music doesn’t pull any punches either. This is Kill the Noise saying “this is who I am. love it or leave it. nah, love it or get the fuck out.”
JAENGA - FUTURE HORROR
On one hand I preach that I’m completely over this future movement, but I’ll shut my mouth and hide my tail just about any old day when a track like this pops up on my radar. Jaenga incorporates the harder sounds on this Future track, making it different from anything I’ve ever hear while still sounding like every future house track out there. It’s got samples up the wazoo like Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock’s "It Takes Two" and I’m down to see what's next from this fool.
DEADMAU5 - IMAGINARY FRIENDS
Fuck this guy. There is no reason that we should still be talking about this piece of shit, except that goddamnit if he isn’t one of the best music producers out there when he actually fucking tries.
RAINER + GRIMM - TALK TO ME FEAT. MELANIE
Melanie has a great voice. Rainer + Grimm for a FAT baseline. I don’t really think there’s much more you can ask for from a track. Production, writing, melody, all on point. This is a classic case of well made music, yo. Ain’t even subjective.
ALEX SCHULZ - MUCH BETTER
Important question. Are Alex Schulz and Robin Schulz related? Not like their music is the same or anything, just the music of two brothers blowing up at the same time. I guess it’s more fun to believe they’re brothers than to choose the reality where two talented people can share a last name.
RITON - RINSE AND REPEAT FEAT. KAH-LO
Every time Riton releases a track I know I’m in for something special. I don’t know why I quickly breezed past it on my soundcloud this morning. This is a late night club track, but with a hefty bounce to it. Kah-lo’s indifferent british vocals mix well with Riton’s chill beat to merge into a slow burn banger. This song will make crowds go wild if dropped correctly, I guarantee it.
LANDIS LAPACE - JUICY
With EPs out on Perfect Driver AND Psycho Disco this week, you’ve got to think that Landis LaPace must be the the goddamn second coming. But I found myself not being able to connect with the other tracks on both of these EPs and I was beginning to think that maybe I was crazy. But then I heard "Juicy" come on my soundcloud and it’s a perfect blend of night bass and tech house. Turns out I am crazy.
ROBINA - TRUFFLE SHUFFLE EP (TEASER)
I’m not normally one to post teasers. I think they are a bullshit way to build up hype for your shitty new track that you don’t want to unveil in an interesting way. But I guess they serve a real purpose sometimes because now I am HYPED. Strange bouncy funk from the Aussie label that brings us magic from Motez, RUFUS and Yolanda Be Cool. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for Goonies pull quotes.
SINDEN - STEP BACK FEAT. FRITZ HELDER
Oh damn. Jackin techno from Sinden? A surprise full length from a guy I’ve been digging for a while now. This whole album is worth listening to (worth listening to his track with worthy) but man I’m in love with the dark jackin techno here. Fritz Helder has got a fun, deep dark vocal hook. This is some Bromance shit. Dark techno for nightclubs full of people who are cool, wear all black and want to fuck but aren’t trying so hard to do it that they won’t. Leave that to the rave kids. Let’s keep it cool. Let’s keep it warehouse.
ANENON - CAMEMBERT
This beautiful soundscape, highlighted by what I can only describe as the twinkling of stars is quite the spacey composition. This feels like the work of a film composer, trying his hand at an art piece record. Leave it to Friends of Friends to find something so strange, so beautiful, so compelling and put it out. Thank god for boutique labels, right?
OK, LET'S ALL FEEL A LITTLE BETTER, HUH? MUSIC DOES WORK!
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
