TOP NEW ELECTRONIC: LUNICE - DISTRUST FT. DENZEL CURRY, J.K. THE REAPER, NELL
When it comes to trappy productions, Lunice knows his sh*t. The Canadian producer made a name for himself when he joined forces with Hudson Mohawke as TNGHT a couple years back, but it’s looking like he’s ready to break out on his own and claim victims on the path there. Cue “Distrust,” an ominous hip hop track featuring rapper Denzel Curry along with J.K. The Reaper and Nell. Listen on We Are: The Guard below.
LUNICE - DISTRUST
Here’s the truth: When you listen to anything Lunice touches, you should be acutely aware that you’re in for something unpredictable and on a different plane when compared to the current sonic soundscapes in the electronic scene. His productions take huge leaps, and “Distrust” is yet another track that rings true to the testament.
All three rappers flow seamlessly on the track, each with a fiery, gut-punch delivery that’ll knock out anyone with a fragile ego. “Distrust” is discordant, jarring, and turns all-out dark when the bell tolls - literally, right before the 2-minute mark. In a second, it goes from banger to really f*cking creepy haunted house music. I don’t recommend listening to this in the dark. “Tell the cops I don’t give a f*ck.” The track falls apart after that, like a warped vinyl struggling to play. Lunice pushes the envelope and starts an electronic assault at the very end; wild, eclectic and nearing the edge of unpleasant -- though it’s impossible to put the headphones down. It is Lunice, after all.
“Distrust” is actually the second single off Lunice’ coming project out in September. Listen to the first single “Mazerati” on Soundcloud.
