TOP NEW INDIE: HYDDE & VIVES - I AM THE MOUNTAIN
Brand new from HYDDE comes another collaboration, this time with Vives to produce the very theatrically “I Am the Mountain.” Keep it here as I celebrate my 100 music reviews and recommendations for We Are: The Guard with this very euphoric experience.
HYDDE & VIVES - I AM THE MOUNTAIN
The musical project of David Pranik called HYDDE and indie band Vives are relatively unknown to the world, yet their newest collaborative track “I Am the Mountain” has already drawn a lot buzz despite being out less than a calendar week.
The presentation of “I Am the Mountain” can only be described as invigorating, featuring spiritually-charged vocals surrounded by a dramatic instrumental backdrop. Everything together just seems like a match made in heaven, birthed from the consummation of U2 and Imagine Dragons. It is pop rock with a whole lot of theatrics. Though the style is definitely not groundbreaking, it is effective and delivers enough feeling and emotions during its three-and-a-half minute runtime. Throughout the three stanzas, there are plenty of moments of allegory left for interpretation. “I found motion but I'm falling too soon, Over the ocean I am going to bloom.” As I am not the best at finding the true meanings of lyrical words, I will leave this task up to the listeners.
