TOP NEW SONGS: FOSTER THE PEOPLE - LOYAL LIKE SYD & NANCY
While Syd Vicious and Nancy Spungen might not be the most healthy relationship to emulate, you can’t really argue they loved each other. Foster The People’s newest single, “Loyal Like Syd And Nancy,” traces the track marks of love, obsession, addiction, and passion on the third single from their upcoming Sacred Hearts Club.
FOSTER THE PEOPLE - LOYAL LIKE SYD & NANCY
“Loyal Like Syd And Nancy” doesn’t sound particularly punk, despite name checking the spirit of ‘77s most iconic punk rock power couple. Instead, graceful vocals soar over a steady, sturdy club-friendly EDM beat. “Loyal Like Syd And Nancy,” does bring to mind the sadly-maligned electroclash, of bands like The Faint or Miss Kittin And The Hacker, but avoiding the raccoon-eyed goth cliches that derailed electroclash in the mid-2000s.
“Loyal Like Syd And Nancy” is artful as a Grimes out-take, while sanding off some of the rough edges, delivering a near-perfect amalgam of pop, EDM, and art rock, dripping with passion yet never becoming abrasive or whiny.
Sacred Hearts Club is shaping up to be Foster The People’s finest hour. We here at We Are: The Guard are expecting great things!
