Yes, they are Racist! Or Das Racist dreams about LMFAO in their "Sexy and I Know It" video.
You may have remembered or discovered a few years such underground "WTF is this hits" from the duo of Himanshu Suri (aka Heems), and Victor Vazquez (aka Kool A.D.), like "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell" and "Who's that? Brooown!" If you're like me your thinking... Ahhh... can't wait to hear some more from these dudes... you know, some more alternative pop hip hop that's a little on the weird side. Bring it on!
Unfortunately they did.
Despite Pitchfork.com giving best new tracks props to their song "Power" and a 3.5 star Rolling Stone review... I really gotta say this album is a disaster.
And the name of this band sums it up. Das Racist really are discriminatory in their own way. Let me explain.
Das Racist are racist about hooks. They don't like them. When coming up on a hook... they get scared and cross to the other side.
Oh did I say they were also discriminatory about hot rhymes and raps! Yes its true. Even though rhymes are supposed to be the cornerstone of the project they have done a tremendous job of segregating any moments of brilliance in the lyrics as well.
There are a couple moments that are acceptable like "Michael Jackson" and "Power" but beyond this you gotta guess how these guys ever got a record deal... being so racist to making hooks and fresh rhymes. Oh wait... they didn't get a record deal. This is self released.
This one solidly goes in our "Poser" section (biggest hyped fails). Das Racist!
Let's relive some of the finer moments of Das Racist:
Das Racist - "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell"
Das Racist - "Michael Jackson" from the new album.
