"CRACK COMMANDMENTS OF FAME (B.I.G. vs DAVID BOWIE"

11/25/13

They say Washington, D.C. is Hollywood for ugly people. That has little to do with District of Columbia-based DJ Alific and his top new song, "Crack Commandments of Fame," I've just always loved that line.

Brendan Dane cut his musical chops as the basset in the San Diego reggae band Stick Figure. A 2011 move to the aforementioned Hollywood for ugly people saw Dane exposed to a previously unseen downtempo electronica scene. After a little taste, he was hooked for life. He came up with the moniker Aifilic and the rest as they say is rock and roll history.

Anyways, if you haven't figured it out already, "Crack Commandments of Fame" is a mashup of The Notorious B.I.G.'s epochal "Ten Crack Commandments" and David Bowie's eternal "Fame." Dare I say hip hop and and a pantheon rocker haven't mixed this well since Biggy and Elton John on Girltalk's "Smash Your Head." On a certain level, a mashup like this is cheating. "Fame" and "Crack Commandments" will both sound supremely awesome no matter what you throw them together with. Hell, they may even make "The Best Man Holiday" watchable (Why does that feel racist? Also, topical humor!).

Regardless though, you gotta give credit to Dane/Alific for dreaming up this collab. Hear it for yourself below:
