BEST CHILL OUT MUSIC - WEEK 2 2014

1/4/14

Are you having trouble sticking to your New Year's resolution? I've already cancelled my annual gym membership, but at least I can reflect on what a terrible person I've become as I listen to this week's best chill out music and eat this family sized bag of Doritos. Shout out to the awesome Curators who helped me out with today's pickings from Recondite, Goldfrapp, Moby and even more.

-

RECONDITE – CLOUDED

“Clouded” from Berlin based producer, Recondite, gently undulates as if floating in the deep ocean, an impression captured by this accompanying, hypnotic visual. You never fail in delivering, Ghostly.

TOYS – HEY BOY

Parisian electronica duo, TOYS, return with yet another atmospheric flick, this time for their ode to  bros, “Hey Boy.” Dudes' peaceful yet meticulous lifestyles are comparable to the song itself, kind of.

GOLDFRAPP – LEE

Can you believe “Lee” is a fucking bonus song? It didn't even make it to the original cut of Tales of Us. Alison Goldfrapp must have intricate ballads like this coming out of her diamonte encrusted ears.

H1987 – SKY IS BLACK – CURATOR BECA

Move over TOYS. It's H1987's turn to drop one of those videos that remind us life is always, always more stunning when in monochrome and unfurling to the sound of chillwave. Even if you're a bison.

MOBY – ROCKETS

Don't get me wrong, Innocents is fucking genius, but let's stop and appreciate some old school Moby. Check out the deep instrumental cut, “Rockets,” as lifted from the compilation tape, A Night In NYC.

JAPANESE WALLPAPER (FEAT. WAFIA) – BREATHE IN

Are you ready to hear something depressing? Japanese Wallpaper is 16 years old. All of a sudden, my life up to this point seems a failure. Jealousy aside, it's impossible to not be charmed by “Breathe In.”

DURAN DURAN – TIGER TIGER

It's time for another vintage classic, kids. “Tiger Tiger” is taken from Duran Duran's third album, and BitCandy favorite, Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Okay, so this owns the video for “Roar,” Katy Perry.

L W K Y – ATTENTION – CURATOR DUFFSTER

There's something incredibly satisfying about watching a band go from sampling, to being sampled. It's one of the best things about blogging for BitCandy. That, and the ridiculous amount of groupies.

CASHMERE CAT – WITH ME (FEMALE REMIX) – CURATOR DUFFSTER

Female, a 17 year old producer from Melbourne, strips “With Me” by Cashmere Cat back to its bare and beautiful bones on this unofficial reworking. Teenagers, stop being so fucking talented, damn it.

AMBIENTMUSICALGENRE – DUSK AMBIENT MIX

As a gift to celebrate the New Year, one of YouTube's top ambient channels, AmbientMusicalGenre, has uploaded this incredible hour long tape. Hit play to dig on Uppermost, Amoeba, OMN and more.

That's it for this week's best chill out music, everybody. I'm back Friday for even more. Don't forget, if you've got what it takes to contribute to any of our weekly roundups, then sign up to be a Curator.

About Jess Grant

When Jess Grant isn't writing on music, she can be found playing it – on her guitar, on her ukulele, and on her recently acquired mandolin. Playing it hideously, she ought to add. Jess also studies. She studies the English language, to be precise. Jess is currently on her way to a degree in the subject, and enjoys starting and never finishing novels, screenplays, and poetry in her spare time. She also likes dogs. Lots of dogs.
