BEST ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 18 2014

4/28/14

You think that i'd be a fully formed person with a week away from Coachella, but you'd be way wrong. Caught that Coachella flu for 3-4 days and am just now starting to feel slightly human again. A full week after a rave to recover, fuck that's not healthy. I gotta start vitamin loading and working out if I expect to ever recover from the festival summer I have ahead of me.

Whatever, that's not important now. What's important is that I only have SLIGHT post nasal drip and some new tracks/mixes/videos/musics to listen to this week. Let's listen to some music and dance in our apartments and offices and forget that we're sick cause it's fucking spring and it's beautiful out and our lives are magical. Okay, cool.

DJ RASHAD - DRANK, KUSH, BARZ (FEAT. SPINN)

Big loss this week. Respect. :(

BOYS NOIZE - STARWIN (BOUNCE VERSION)

What the fuck is this bullshit? Uh alex, are you aware that your original version of Starwin is absolutely perfect? Why would you touch it? I am way confused.

JAMES MURPHY & PAT MAHONEY: FABRICLIVE 36

I think James Murphy chose to re-drop this mix on his soundcloud the exact same time that Win Butler decided to make an asshat of himself at Coachella. Win Butler gave a shout out to "all the people playing instruments this weekend." James dropping this awesome perfect beautiful disco mix I think is his way of distancing himself from the new official Kings of Lame, The Arcade Fires. "Yo, I produced their record, but I ain't a tool like that," James re-assures us all.

BENNY BENASSI & JOHN DAHLBACK - EDM.COM EXCLUSIVE MIX

I had to *blink* when I saw these two names together. Benny Benassi and John Dahlback… that doesn't make any sense. But, actually it does. There aren't many dudes making 2010 era electro anymore and Benassi and Dahlback (though from different generations) have been holding their ground through all different kinds of dance music transitions. This mix is nice; it reminds me how dope these two dudes are, how many goddamn bangers they have on their own, AND I get to enjoy this new electro banger collar… Blink.

TIESTO - WASTED FT. MATTHEW KOMA

The beat behind the drop is the exact same beat as Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild & Free." "I like you better when we're wasted" is a pretty fucked up message to send through speakers to 100,000+ kids at a time. But whatever, right? Tiesto is a weird out of touch old man that knows how to make money come out of his ears. It's all good, at least this song is catchy and the lyrics are memorable.

I actually have no beef with this song. It's just as fun and dumb as it needs to be to get everyone in the world singing it this summer. I know too much shit for my own good is all.

GALANTIS -  YOU (TIESTO VS. TWOLOUD REMIX)

Galantis make big etherial progressive house. Tiesto makes BIGGER etherial progressive house. This song is just as beautiful as the original and is fortunately going to get it in a lot more ears. Get these dudes onto bigger stages and in front of audiences, by any means necessary.

DAFT PUNK - HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER (DILLON FRANCIS REMIX)

This song could be horrible and I'd have no fucking clue. I feel like I faint at the mere idea of Dillon Francis remixing Daft Punk and don't even awaken until the song is over.

It's good, right? I'm not crazy? Honestly, I don't even give a shit.

AUTOKRATZ - PUSH

https://soundcloud.com/autokratz/push

Some songs are meant for the dance floor and not my shitty macbook speakers. This track is clearly meant for the dance floor as Autokratz is def hyping it up that way in the track description. I can imagine getting down to this in a nightclub somewhere in Europe, but alas all I have is these shitty speakers. A boy can dream.

ZHU - THE ONE

It feels rewarding to be at something on the ground floor. ZHU emerged with their amazing "Moves Like Ms. Jackson" Outkast cover mash-up. Zhu for sure panned out. Every track on their new EP is some bomb-ass deep house. I can't wait to see what Zhu keeps doing.

WUKI - BOOTYTECH MIX

Wuki has releases on Main Course and OWSLA but it's his Dancing Astronaut Bootytech Mix that's going to open him to a lot of new fools. Bootytech is the new new shit and it's nice to see Wuki bringing it to the major blog markets with an incredibly unfamiliar (to me!) tracklisting. Please, new songs. Always new songs. Hold on BRB, shaking my ass to techno.

FELIX CARTAL - LET IT GO

Once upon a time Felix Cartal's Weekend Workout was the best podcast in the game. Every track he'd post was my favorite track of that week. He was consistent in banging out the hardest electro there was around. I have no idea what the fuck Felix Cartal is doing anymore. He continues to surprise me with how little regard he holds for electro. All of his new tracks focus on some chick singing something pretty over a non-track of a track. Dude, time to just go become a producer for Solange or Sza or something.  How u play this shit at festivals?

THE TOXIC AVENGER - CHASE II

Never not French electro house. The French never change and I love them for it. Slow and meticulous, patient and banging. Oh, to be partying in France ten years ago. I would have enjoyed those nightclubs so much. Would have picked up smoking and chain-smoked my way through many long nights.

ICY LAKE - A NIGHT SLUGS X FADE TO MIND SHORT FILM

This is my shit. Icy Lake by Dat Oven could have been lost forever if Total Freedom didn't find it on a YouTube rabbit-hole featuring footage of Junior Vasquez spinning at NYC gay club Arena in 1998. Night Slugs and Fade to Mind are now re-releasing this creepy ass minimal future house track that fits perfectly in both of their oeuvres. Good, weird, creepy. Exactly what i'm looking for in my dance music.

Hey, it was really great talking to you this week. Can't wait to talk to you next week when I'll be 100% human (if I'm lucky). Get lucky.
