2/3/21

Just like that, we’re 1/12th of the way into what we expect to be another very dynamic year. With festivals cancelling once again, Valentine’s Day on the horizon, and even more questions about COVID-19, there’s a lot to think about these days. Unwind with some of the best new indie pop music.

ARLO PARKS - “TOO GOOD”

Arlo Parks is consistently too good at lyrics and groove (haha see what I did there?!). On “Too Good,” one of the new tracks from her album Collapsed In Sunbeams, Parks gracefully tells the story of a complex relationship. The details in her lyrics paint a vivid picture. “I bought you breakfast / then you started at your rings / the air was fragrant and thick / with our silence.”

GOLDSPACE - “BAD LOVE”

GOLDSPACE’s new single “Bad Love” is about the honeymoon phase of a relationship. Supported by shimmery production and harmony that feels nostalgic, the LA-based duo skillfully paints a picture both lyrically and sonically.

LYN LAPID - “ITSY BITSY”

What started as a TikTok series where Lyn Lapid would create dark twists on nursery rhymes, has now led to the release of her second single, “Itsy Bitsy.” Originally gaining popularity on TikTok for her song “Producer Man,” Lapid returns and shows that she’s here to stay.

yeah I know I said “brang” instead of “brought” and what about it the grammatical error brings flavor#fyp #original #itsybitsyspider

ABIGAIL BARLOW - “FUTURE EX”

When she’s not writing the genius “If Bridgerton was a Musical” series with Emily Bear, Abigail Barlow can be found putting out some of the best new indie pop jams. On “Future Ex,” she thanks the person who will be next to break her heart.

ALANYA - UPGRADE

South London based singer/songwriter Alanya knows who she is and what she deserves on new track “Upgrade.” With vocals at the forefront, Alanya shines and proves why she’s one to look for at the intersection of pop and R&B.

SOPHIA GRIPARI - PLEASURE & PAIN

There’s nothing better than a song with a great chorus, and Sophia Gripari knows how to write one well. She’s no stranger to our best new indie pop posts, so we’re here to report that she’s done it again, folks. “Pleasure & Pain” is about that person who is simultaneously really good for you and also really bad for you.

MOTHICA - FOREVER FIFTEEN

CW: Suicide

Mothica’s “forever fifteen” was released on the 10 year anniverary of the day she tried to take her own life. As this song has been a huge part of her journey to healing, she asked fans to share their stories, too. Photos appear in the official lyric video, and it’s an extremely moving reminder that so many people have overcome battles with mental health. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, here is a helpful resource, and as reflected in Mothica’s video- you’re not alone.
